Hi friends! I have a sony vaio tx-27gp laptop.
It's got a 60gb HDD which is 1.8" 4200rpm pata drive. I want to replace it as it's become very slow.

What should I get? What are my options? Please suggest.
Wont mind getting a SSD if it's easily available in this 1.8" pata form factor.

Please suggest.

Budget no bar.

Its seems like a very old model of Sony Vaio. Any plans for upgrading? SSD's are expensive! If your laptop interface is PATA then, not sure if laptop HDD with PATA interface are available anymore!

hellstorm, yesh it's an old model....2004-05 make I guess

the problem isnt the availability of the PATA drives....pata drives for laptop are available in plenty!
but the thing is that those 2.5" in size...mine is 1.8" in size...these 1.8" drives are mostly used in consumer electronics...such as ipod classics, handycams, etc...
the ipod drives can be found easily but they use ZIF connector instead of the normal PATA connector....thats the only problem

I asked for toshiba 1.8" pata drive...60gb is available at 5-6k!
this is costly man! so I might go for a ssd as well if I can get some 16-32gb 1.8" pata ssd for 4-5k...this is my work laptop...I dont store multimedia data one it..so even 20gb would be ok....just OS and some documents.

please suggest

for price of one SSD, you can get a brand new laptop :)

1.8" 64Gb SSD costs around 7.5k in USA which means that it should cost near to 10k

I don't think you would get a SSD PATA. So count that option out. Normal PATA drives are almost extinct. So check some websites. Also check with Sony Customer Care.

Yes. best way to go is to approach Sony service center. Else get the PATA 1.8" HDD from USA or ebay

I think SSD is still far from the reach of the common user as the price is really high
