Why r u people always recommending Nvidia, don't u know that Nvidia has not only been beaten by Ati in the past but the future for her also is doomed with crappy drivers for vista which drop performance by over 50% on high resolutions in DirectX9 when compared to performance on xp.The Geforce 8800 did not perform better with DirectX9 games at high resolutions due to crappy drivers.Long ago it was ati with the crappy drivers but now that crown has been taken over by nvidia.Ati has only 1% performance drop at high resolution with DirectX9 games on vista.I recommend u to go with Radeon X1600 pro.

Just extend ur budget a little.

Cool and Calm
My consent......

dont try on any GFX cards now....
bcoz with DX10 coming, the Nvidia will start with its 8000 series and ATI
with theirs....(read in digit)....

so getting a DX9 card now, wont help on future gaming....

There's an 8600 GTS announced by Nvidia as a mid-range DX-10 compatible video card. I'm quite sure there's an 8400 planned for lower end DX-10 compatible gaming...not to mention ATi's offerings!!

@OP: I recommend you hang on to your cash for now. Unless you are DESPERATE, its not a good idea to commit yourself to technology that is soon going to be outdated.

Having said all that, if you are super desperate, go buy a 7600 GS...for 5000 rs, its the best you can get.
