I am planning to buy a dvd writer. I have a four year old pentium 3 700 mhz intel 810e chipset based tomato motherboard. I have 256 SDRAM.

I already have a samsung 352 something combo drive.

But, I want to burn stuff to DVD as they can store much more data.

Which dvd writer would be the best for my system configuration? Can you tell me their current prices in delhi?

dvd-writers have high system requirements
i think if u want to use dvd-writer in PIII u may need 3-4GB free hard disk space and 256+128 MB or more of RAM

go for a Sony/Lite-on dvd rewriter.

I was searching on ebay. There were various models. dual layer, iomega all format, etc. with prices ranging from rs. 3500 to 5500.

I am confused. WHat is this dual layer and stuff?

There are many varieties of dvd media like dvd-r dvd+r dvdram thats what they mean by formats. Most ppl use dvd-r & dvd+r.

Also they come in varied capaciteis

4.3GB , 4.7GB

Dual layer supports 8.3 GB

Right now they are scarce but in future u may use DL media

So go for sony 810 or lieton 1693s. they are the best

go four a dual layer dvd-rewriter. It'll allow you to write 8.5 gb dvds too. (it'll make the writer a bit "future proof" ).

yeah, the sony 810 series is good.
