Dear friends,
I have a compaq CQ3420 desktop pc with configuration is as follows-
1. CPU- Pentium dual core E5500,2.80 Ghz.
2. RAM- 1GB single channel DDR3, 400 Mhz (6-6-6-15)
3. MOTHERBOARD- FOXCONN 2A8C (CPU 1),Intel G41 Express chipset 256 MB on board graphics
4. PSU- 250 W output
5. OS- Windows XP Pro, SP 3

I want to upgrade this pc as an average gaming rig so that I can play almost every game in minimum settings. Please suggest me better upgradable components in details mentioning brands name. I don't want to change my cpu and motherboard.I know my configuration is outdated but i want to enjoy old classic games until i build a new rig.so please suggest me compatible RAM and graphics card and also power supply unit.should i use DDR2 or DDR3 RAM ? Please suggest me a good gaming configuration. I am eagerly waiting your reply.THANKS

Those branded PCs normally come with cheap local PSU. For accommodating a good graphics card, you need a good PSU also.

Get the following things:-

Corsair Value Select 4GB X 2 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram @ 2.4K
Corsair CX 430V2 PSU @ 2.6K
Gigabyte HD 7770 OC 1GB GDDR5 @ 7.9K (GIGABYTE GV-R777OC-1GD GRAPHIC CARD)

Rather that getting a GTX 560, OP can opt for a Zotac GTX 650 TI 1 GB GDDR5 card, available around 10.9K. It performs better and consumes far lesser power. But the problem is there is a high chance that the existing CPU will bottleneck the card in some extent.

i finally decided to go with amd hd 7770 gpu,4 gb ddr3 ram and corsair 450 w psu but i want to know 'would these components support my old cpu and mobo ?or would bottleneck my cpu ? please help me
