I want to upgrade my windows XP Professional into Windows Vista Ultimate Ed. What are the necessary steps to be followed for upgradation? Which one is more friendly for common user? Can there be any conflict with my existing hardwares like - nVidia 8600GT Card, Internal Modem (D-link), Pinnacle PCTV PCI Card etc.? My system is - Win XP Professional (SP3), Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500, 2Gb RAM.... Pliz give me a suggestion!

You can install Vista as a dual boot. I think nVidia card will not cause any issues. Vista requires minimum of 1 GB of RAM and since you have 2 GB it will be smooth.

Just make sure to install genuine Vista.

Vista wont lag in that rig. Go for it and make sure that you upgrade it to latest sp after installation. Just dont get annoyed with the UAC which is why many users quit vista or disable it.

Yes, absolutely.. You can easily upgrade ur XP to Vista-Ultimate.. Any of ur hardware wont make any issues with the new OS. Vista itself contains upgraded drivers for all the hardwares that you have listed.

But use only Genuine copy of the OS and keep it updated.

Personally i got irritated with the UAC in vista n stopped using it and switched back to XP. But, if consider graphics and an awesome luking interface VISTA is for u. :) It has the best graphical interface OS of microsoft till date.
UAC creates irritation at times and bugs u, but u might get used to it over time, or can simply disable it.

As talking about user-friendliness, my vote is still for XP.
