Hey guys
I want to make a CCTV setup in my Dad's office. And seriously i know nothing about the components required. So please help me.
My dad just wants to get the live view from other rooms (no recording) at his screen in front of where he sits. Total five cameras are required for the whole setup. The basic things that he wants from the setup is
  • He can view on LCD monitor that has VGA port (already own it)
  • The setup should be connected to Internet, so that he can view it on his Android phone when he is not at the place.
Broadband Connection is there in the office and a TP-Link WR740n router (which i think would be required for connecting it to Internet)
Budget - no idea how much total expense does a normal setup takes, so budget is not an issue currently but check that the setup is reasonable.
Availability - Must be good in quality and generally available at the market too. (Will purchase from Nehru Place, Delhi)

Tell me if any other info is required, else please give me info on what to purchase and how would be the connection to Internet made?

Thanks in Advance. :)

Ok you need a DVR... For live view, and viewing on internet/ mobile and recording also if you install a HDD in it
DVR comes in 4 cameras setup/8 cameras setup/16camera setup... Upton 32 camera setup

So for DVR I suggest you to buy branded ( like dahua, HIKVSION, Etc) if available locally or get it from ebay
There are several models in ebay and I can help you in that...

And cameras come in different resolution( hope you know this) and charity, price depends on the resolution... In cameras resolution is called as TVL(TV LINES) LIKE 420tvl, 480tvl, 600tvl, etc
There is a comparison on the internet about clarity...

You need to buy cabling(1 cable carries video and audio) and power supply(like 12v and and 5 amps like that)

And tell me your budget. You could install it yourself( use a electrician for drilling holes and screwing in cameras)
And installing connectiors etc you can do yourself easily
If you get a PRO to install he will surely install it very bad like all cables hanging over the place and loose connections and take 1k to 3k charges

Hey
okay thanks for the reply :)

For the DVR, I would be requiring the one with 8 cameras setup. Must be of good quality and reasonable at the same time.
While the cameras must be very good (better than average). Currently, we''l be purchasing a total of 3 cameras, which are urgent at the time and the rest two later. Some basic things that i noticed must be there in the cameras, as i noticed on the net are
  • All must be voice enabled.
  • one camera is required to have BLC feature + 8mm lens
  • the other one must be day and night view active + 4mm lens
  • the third one, is to be installed in the main room where dad sits and i think should be of the widest angle, 4mm lens would be okay.
Tell me the brands which make really good cameras (sony, i read somewhere) are they good? and please tell me some more features to check on while deciding for the camera?
And is 480tvl of good quality?

You should have thought of buying the dvr before a 2 weeks. at that time the prices were low...very low but now they have hiked. so the Hikvision dvr (some have HDMI OUT) are a bit costly now. if you want to buy that u can. as it even has 2 year warranty and many dvr listings are removed now on ebay so see if you can get it locally(Dahua, CP-Plus, etc)...

1st you can get the cameras....all will come with 3.6mm lens as default so see if you are satisfied or else swap it with the shopkeeper
you need to get mic separately

so finally here is list
------
DVR - 8ch with 8 audio in
Camera - 5
CCTV mic's -5
------
BNC connector - 5 (add +1 if you want to see on a crt tv and the another jack which is on the tv OR hdmi cable)
RCA connector - 5 (add +2 if you want to see on a crt tv)
PSU
cables(copper-video,red,black,and any other color)

and for cameras, go to local shop and take your preferred quality and ask price and compare it on ebay....
