I want to buy a 1 GB stick of DDR RAM. Please tell me the cost and a good brand. Not Corsair, its not available here. Should give me good performance. My motherboard is in my signature. Wil it make any difference of model. With the help of Lavalys Everest i found out that my current RAM model is
512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM. Will it make any difference if i buy a different RAM model?

I suggest you go for transcnd ram and if your motherboard supports it go for 2*512 sticks so that you can run them in dual channel mode which will enable you run your 3200 aka 400 mhz ram at 800 mhz.It is of no use buying a ram other than pc 3200 if u already have pc3200 ram on your comp because if you use anything lower than this your other ram will also run at the frequency of the lower ram moreover there may be compartibility issues.
Try to get corsair value if you can very good ram with 10 year no questions asked replacement gurantee.

I just want to ask that is PC3200 good RAM? I have right now 512 MB in the mobo. But if i buy a 1GB stick of PC3200 module. Then will they run in dual channel mode? Or the capacity should be equal to run them in dual channel mode? My motherboard supports upto 2GB of RAM.

In this way i will have 1.5 GB. Then i'll fit in a cool graphics card. And here u go. I will have a gr8 gaming rig. What do u say?

shloeb ... our motherboards won't support memory of > 2 GB .... go for hynix or dynet ..is for 3400 Rs . :) for 1 GB DDR 400 Mhz

buy 2*512MB DDR 400 from Kingston/Trancend
but if u wish u may go for single 1 GB DIMMS but with above configuration u get the benifit of Dual channel RAM

@shloeb: no chance of a 512mb and a 1gb module running in dual channel. for two ram cards to run in dual channel, they must have same capacity and preferably even same latency timings or it can cause prob. best to buy two exact ram cards together if u plan to run in dc mode

My motherboards support upto 2 GB RAM so. And right now i have 512 MB stick. I can't buy another 512 MB stick to run in dual channel mode.
So tell me which will perform better?
-1.5 GB RAM (1x1GB+1x512MB)
-1 GB RAM (2x512MB running in dual channel mode)

I was thinking that right now i should buy a 1GB stick then in this way i will have 1.5 GB RAM. And after some time i'll sell my 512MB stick and buy another 1 GB stick to run them in dual channel mode. What do u ppl think?

Yep! ddr2 prices 1 more expensive!.>Wonder y 1 is more expensive??

DDR1 is expensive because it is not in the Mainstream. All new PC have support for DDR2. Only old PC need DDR1. The thing which is mainstream is cheaper. Same thing happened to SDRAM when DDR1 was launched :)

Idea is good, but the timing is not, as i think u have DDR, therefore u should no, from now on the Price will go high and where as slowlly the Availibility will come down...

!!

so if u think u would wait an year then get another DDR 1GB, certainlly not a good idea... !! :(

Why not Corsair? They are still listed at *www.yantraonline.in/Product.asp?SubCatId=3
Ask them for the payment methods and discount.

@cheeta and nishant, so right now i should buy a 1 GB RAM only.I should drop the idea of dual channel mode.
By the way i asked a question:-

Which will perform better?
-1.5 GB RAM (1x1GB+1x512MB)
-1 GB RAM (2x512MB running in dual channel mode)

@ monkey i don't want to trade online. And corsair is not available here.
