Please tell me the ideal upgrade for me. I like to play games and it is also used for MS Office applications. Here is my specification:

P3 1.0 GHz
256 MB SD RAM
Mercury motherboard (no sata, no DDR)
40 GB Samsung IDE hard disk
Geforce2 MX400 64MB

hi friend,

ok if u need a pc to play games (high end) then u should should dump this rig.

it doesnt have processing power, ram, nor a good graphic card and its built on a crappy mercury motherboard

[like this]

amd 3200+

asus motherboard(any)

1.5gb ddr ram(coz vista is near)

80 gb hdd

nvidia 6800gt card

sony DRU 820A

I'm kind of a hard core gamer, but not too much on FPS. Only HL2, to be specific. But I simply looove simulation and strategy games.

My budget is kind of about Rs.25000. I want to know how much I can get on resale value for my computer junk.

25k is just too less for building a power packed pc.
before going to buy ur new pc in such a budget, always make sure u choose such that has an even balance. (not just u r going for a good part & a crapy for another)
wait for drvarunmehta to reply. when he says it always settle something.

My friend you can do nothing with this rig as its totally outdated. You have specified your budget to be Rs.25,000. You can have a definite good AMD rig which will comply to ur every need.
Here are your specifications:
1.ASUS P5GD1-VM Mainboard based on Intel 915G - Rs.5,700
2.P-IV LGA775 2.8Ghz/3.0Ghz processor - Rs.5,000/Rs.8,250
3.Transcend 512MB DDR 400Mhz - Rs.2,400
4.Seagate Barracuda Hard Disk 80GB/120GB - Rs.2,600/Rs.3,300
5.Sony DVD dual layer writer - Rs.2,800
6.15" LG monitor - Rs.4,000
7.Creative SBS 2.1 370 - Rs.1,100
8.e-Life keyboard and optical mouse - Rs.565
9.Frontech ATX cabinet with 300watts SMPS - Rs.800

The total of the above configuration is well within your budget of Rs.25,000. go ahead and get your machine assembled.

Regards,
Shovik.

Why don't u go for a 6600 or 6600 GT....U know that nVidia has cut down the prices...These cards are fine for descent gaming....and they are not even tooooo expensive....

ya if u r low on budget, go for 6600 non-gt (256MB,128bit,pcie16x).
u can find it as low as 3k. A deep search will do it.
U will be able to play heavier games @ 1024*768 with anti-aliasing turned off.
it can give 30fps in farcry @ 1024*768 with AA turned off & high details
