Samsung tipped prepping a 6" 4K AMOLED display with 700+ppi for next August, just in time for the Note 5

Rejoice, 4K lovers, as that's the resolution you might be getting with the next edition of Samsung's Galaxy Note series. We got tipped that Samsung will start mass-producing a 5.9" Ultra HD Super AMOLED display with 700+ppi next August, which puts manufacturing plans just in the timeframe for the Note 5 release, if everything goes according to traditions.

Granted, it is just a uncorroborated tip from one source, but Samsung itself confirmed in its Analyst Days presentation slides last year that it has UHD 2160x3840 pixels AMOLED displays for mobile in the works for 2015. Also, at the Semiconductor and Display Technology Roadmap workshop in January, Samsung presenters hinted again at higher-resolution UHD smartphone displays in the pipeline. These resolutions, however, were mentioned then together with the "diamond pixel" term, which is a fancy way to say a non-standard pixel matrix arrangement, that is closer to PenTile, than the standard RGB stripe matrix. In any case, at 700+ ppi, nobody would notice the individual pixels anyway, so we can't wait to see what Samsung is prepping for us in future phones.

Back in May, the head of LG Display sat down for an interview, too, and mentioned that 600ppi, and even 700ppi smartphone panels are within reach, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Samsung is also striving for those record pixel densities. Sharp was recently rumored to work on a 4K mobile display as well, in the 5.5"-6" diagonal range, so 2015 is again shaping up to be an exciting year in terms of resolution count.

Our own calculations return 746ppi for a 5.9" panel with 2160 x 3840 pixels of UHD resolution, so there you have it - production timeframe in August means it will be ready to go into an eventual Note 5, which should be announced at the IFA expo in September 2015. As for the rest of the specs, we surely hope that the screen-to-phone ratio will be improved, as using a larger display would make the next Note even bigger than it is now. We can also reasonably expect a Snapdragon 810 chipset, which will be ready for prime time then, and a higher resolution camera with optical image stabilisation. The rest we will leave for the rumor mill to fill in, but we have no doubts in Samsung's abilities to produce a monster Note phablet for next year, too.

Enough with the crazy screen resolution and unpocket-able phones, just replace that crapwiz with Stock Android and give an actual VFM phone for google's sake.

Enough with the cheap-ass comments. Just give us a premium phone with complete features, no matter what the price.(would still be less than an Iphone )

Not trying to initiate a flame war but I can't carry slipper sized phones in my pocket be it from Samdung, Motorola or LG. Nor that I want to spend anything above 25k (actually even 15k is enough) for a freaking phone. Android was termed lagdroid because of samdung's crapwiz.

You want to state your opinion, fine. targeting forum members who don't agree with your views is retarded faggotry.

I am sorry if you are offended, but I was simply stating the obvious.

I just handled a Nokia 720. Thats the best size for a phone ever(for me), although a 4.8" screen could have been fitted in that body.

Instead of peaking out on a technology, one can always bring something new to market....

IMO instead of going drunk on PPI rating, Samsung might have introduced a new panel technology or a new wireless standard or something...

Right off the assembly line
Facebook bought startup company oclus for 1 billion dollars, Samsung a week back released Samsung gear vr. With oclus rift you can have Imax kinda experience just with a smartphone.even Google released cardboard.

The issue with these is when smart phone is closer to the eye pixels are visible and for vr virtual reality, the screen is divided into two (half resolution) and sent to each eye

These are the next big thing in 3d, gaming, virtual reality and 4k screen is minimum requirement here

Totally agreed.

Simple design, straightforward layout, snappy performance, light on pocket.
That's all anyone wants from phone, moto has hit that nerve, something Samsung never can.

There is always a phase for manufacturers. There was a time when Sammy released S3 it sold like hot cakes and made it one hell of a alternative for any premium phone. But that phase slowly went away and now samsung is struggling. And now HTC is making profit even after being in one hell of losses for a long period. So change is law of nature
