Windows 98 sencond edition is on the C drive and Windows XP Home Edition SP2 is on the D drive. At the time of booting through Windows 98 second edition, it says that ERROR STARTING PROGRAM " A required. DLL file, MSVCRT.DLL, was not found. How to rectify this problem?

Moreover, If one uninstall both the Windows 98 sencond edition on the C drive and Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on the D drive, and install again only Windows XP Home Edition SP2,( NOT WINDOWS 98 EDITION), on his system. Then what is to be done in this regard?

Is there any need for formatting the system before reinstalling again Windows XP Home Edition SP2 edition only. If so, how to do that?

I would like to know how partions like A,C,D,F,G and H are provided on the system. What are the methods available for the purpose?

I would be very very happy if your answers to my questions will be in simple, step-by-step procedures.

for dll files use this: *www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcrt, for others i dont know. As for partitioning use DISK MANAGER in Windows. If an unpartitoned HDD is installed, it will detect it, then format the HDD, create partions acc. to ur choice. Others i dont know
Hope this helps

>>For msvcrt.dll, download it from here and then copy it to your c:\Windows\system folder. This should do.....

>>To install only XP after uninstalling both, boot with 98 and backup all your data to d: or e: or any other place you can and delete the following folders
D:\Windows
D:\Program Files
D:\Documents and Settings (backup you XP documents before you do this)
and then boot with a bootable XP SP2 CD and install XP on C: and choose to quick format C: using FAT or Ntfs file system as you like........

Alternatively, you can format c: and without deleting the folder above, you can use XP that is already installed. You will need to follow the following process for that.........
-Back up your data to d: or any other place other than c:
-boot with a 98 bootable CD or Floppy
-format c:
-restart
-boot with a XP bootable
-press 'R' on the first screen to goto the recovery console
-sign in with the admin password
-type in 'fixboot' and 'fixmbr' in the command prompt
-restart

>>Partitions are made manually. You too can create/delete/merge partitions with third party tools such as Partition Magic
