Two pieces of news that made me think..
Unbending the truth:-
1. Read this in the novell website. The recent Microshaft's "get the facts" surveys c*ap has been answered quite well by novell and seems like novell is taking microsoft head to head.

Recently Microsoft has been challenging the suitability of Linux for the enterprise, bending the truth quite a bit to make it fit their view of the world. This site is dedicated to unbending the truth and setting the record straight. Take the time to explore the facts, and you'll understand why Microsoft is challenging Linux, and why Linux is often a better choice than Windows for satisfying the business needs of enterprises....

Microsoft meets Redhat:-
2. Read this at ZDnet and also other websites. Steve Ballmer has held a meeting with the Linux firm's chief executive, Matthew Szulik, in New York.

The chief executives of Microsoft and Red Hat held a private meeting in New York, ZDNet UK sister site CNET News.com has learned, an indication that relations between the rivals might be warming.

Microsoft's Steve Ballmer and Red Hat's Matthew Szulik met for more than an hour at a McCormick & Schmick's restaurant in New York in late March, sources familiar with the situation said. Microsoft initiated the meeting, one source indicated...

Do you guys think that their strategies are changing. Red hat's calims of being the open source leader seems to be vanishing....
Seems like novell's taken up the crown. What are your views?

BTW, do you guys think there is some substance in the "Get the facts" survey from microsoft? I don't think there is any! And now that redhat is going their way means something bad. We all know the competition between novell and redhat. :(

Mind you guys, Novell is a huge monster. At a point of time, Novell was the owner, and had IPR rights over the original AT&T's UNIX (R) source code base. It later sold those license to SCO Corp.

Novell has taken to OpenSource software in a big way by their acquistition of Ximian and huge contributions to the GNOME project.

One reason for Novell to embrace Linux and GNOME projects could be that their own brand of operating system, Novell Netware is no longer being able to sell itself in market.

RedHat is just a new kid around the block which has been in picture since last 10 years.

Another monster is SUN Microsystems, which has recently embraced Free and OpenSource software strategy, by releasing their reknowed Solaris kernel under opensource license. They have also released Sun UltraSparc specifications under public license. This all indicates the new shift towards community supported software and for us it means wait and watch :)

Some wonder why Red Hat doesn't spend more time defending ourselves. Refuting their "facts" with our "facts." Fighting to see who can buzz loudest.

Truth is, we're busy with other stuff. We're reading the latest articles, and writing the newest case studies and whitepapers. We're thinking about intellectual property and leadership. We're getting involved in public policy and education. We're making movies and encouraging others to join us in making a difference. We let our people do the talking.

The open source software model continues to make better software faster, just as it has for years. With our help, new people figure this out every day. We don't have to sell it, we just have to show it off and let technology speak for itself.

No corporate-speak analysis. No boastful predictions. Just another day at Red Hat.
The truth Happens
