Hi Everyone ,

I have dual booted Windows Vista with Windows XP ... this isn't a new thing since i have been doing it since last one year ... But this time , while installing Windows XP , i chose the partition C: and let D: intact for Vista installation ... ( earlier was vice-versa )

Now when i log onto my XP , the XP installation is in C: and Vista in D: .... But the prb. is that when i log into Vista , the windows vista installation directory is C: and Windows XP is D: ... isn't this strange ? Can it create some problems like crashing of both the windows ?

My second problem is that i have attached a new dvd-writer ( now there are 2 optical drives , both are DVD-RW ) to my PC and have set my BIOS to defaults ... Now whenever i install Windows , its taking arnd 15-20 mins. more to install OS then what it took to get installed earlier ! What could be the prb. this time ?

Thnx in anticipation

Regards ,

Vista always detect the installation drive as the C:\ drive and thus you have your D:\ drive as a C:\ in Vista.

There should be some driver issues with your new DVD-RW. Is it a SATA one ?

Check if u hv enabled DMA for ur DVD-RW in the BIOS, since u mentioned that u set all settings to default. PIO is significantly slower and hence the long installation times.

can this lead to a conflict and result into crashing of both the windows ?

It shows ::

My C: in XP is 15 GB and D: is 30 GB ;; My C: in Vista is 30 GB and D: is 15 GB

No ... its an IDE

sorry it should've been:
my vista installation drive is shown as E: in vista too :)

u too have dual booted ?

its selected as auto by default ...

devsuvra means that your windows XP's c drive is being shown as D in vista it won't lead to any issues.

install from the drive that is set as secndary master, assuming that HDD is set as primary master.

BTW how to enable DMA?
