Hanging, since 2004..
Monolith and Warner Bros. massively multiplayer extension of the hit film franchise to go live March 22nd in U.S. and April 8th in Europe.
Co-publishers Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA announced a release date for the massively multiplayer game based on the tremendously successful Matrix film franchise. The Matrix Online, developed by Monolith Productions, is slated to go live on March 22nd in the United States and April 8th in Europe. The game has been in beta test phase since last July and is currently undergoing a final shakedown prior to launch.
The Matrix Online begins directly after the conclusion of the motion-picture trilogy, and according to the developers, will continue the storyline with the players taking on the roles of newly awakened humans -- "redpills" in the game's fictional parlance. In order to remain as true as possible to the world created in the films, the development team has secured the voice talents of many of the film's actors including Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Monica Bellucci (Persephone), Mary Alice (The Oracle), and Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian). The continuing storyline of the game will be penned by writer Paul Chadwick, (noted for his Concrete series of graphic novels) under the supervision of the Wachowski brothers.

The company will also be releasing nine exclusive game trailers detailing the current storylines and motivations of the game's three principle protagonists. It is the interactions of these three factions -- the Machines, the Zionists, and the Exiles -- that is expected to provide most of the fictional structure for the game. The nine trailers also cross-reference each other and form part of a continuing story that will conclude in a longer trailer expected to hit movie theaters just prior to the game's release
