I tried to telnet my system i.e, 127.0.0.1 both in linux as well as windows but all I get is 'connection refused'. why is this so?
Also I created a srever program that binds itself over a port so as to respond to users connecting on that port in my linux box. But when I use $netcat 127.0.0.1 , I get 'connection refued' again here . Why do u think this is happ... .

LOL some weird replies in here.
First of all all the ports are open by default unless you purposefully close them by using some sort of a firewall on a windows machine.
EDIT:
i mean check ur ip with a port scanner to see if port 21, 23 open?
Duder port 21 is the default port for FTP[File Transfer Protocol].
From what I get from the post you are trying to connect to as in a client/server model?
Assign a IP address to the machine & specify a port say for a web server port 80 which is the default port.
Try accessing the same from a different machine by specifying the IP address & the port specified.
This should work if thats what you are looking for.
