System Hung up!

RAM: DDR 400 Mhz 512 MB RAM PC 3200 Kingston
HDD: Maxtor 300 GB SATA 7200 rpm
Display: ASUS nVidia 7800 GTX 256 MB vRAM PCIe
Monitor: Phillips 19" FlatScreen CRT
Optical Drive: Sony Dual Layer DVD RW
Input Devices: Micrsoft Optical Mouse and Keyboard
Cabinet: Cooler Master Cavalier Cabinet with 650 Watt Power Supply

I am running Windows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition.
The problem with the PC is that it hangs up very frequently. What could be the possible problem? If you want to ask any specifics please do!
Appreciate all the help I can get ASAP.

can b virus problem... so get good antivirus as well as antispyware software.. load the latest service pack & updates for the OS...

make sure all the devices get proper drivers

make sure that system stays inside the normal temp... if system heats up very much then this kind of hunging problems comes...

Do what Saurav said. Get Spybot S&D / Spy Cleaner and Some nice Anti Virus like McAffe or Kaspersky or something else and run a full extensive scan on your system, it might yield some interesting results. I think the problem is mostly spyware. Your specs are great but are you overclocking your system beyond a limit, that too might be the problem. So, check these out.

Get Lavasoft's AD Aware 1.06 and also Spybot S&D and run a full system scan,its mainly due to spywares and/or viruses.

I have tried installing AVG 7.0 Free version. But Since I am running Windows XP 64-bit Version, I couldn't install it.
What would be the best Anti Virus Scanner for the 64-bit version ( And please!, not Norton )...
