Suggestion for storage type

Hi, my family and I take a lot of photos, and my local storage is almost full. I need to get new storage and also want to back up the existing photos because I experienced an HDD failure a few years ago.

I'm confused between using cloud storage and a NAS. My main requirement is that my family members should be able to access the photos over the internet. I need at least 6TB of storage. I’ve shortlisted Microsoft OneDrive since it offers 1TB per user for up to 6 users, which seems affordable compared to others. I tried DigiBoxx, an Indian storage provider, but it lacks integration. I’m open to other recommendations.

Another option I’m considering is getting a NAS (like Synology or QNAP), though the initial cost is high. I’m also thinking about building a DIY NAS, but that might require a DDNS provider, which comes with recurring costs.

Could you please suggest the best solution for my needs?

Onedrive is good & cheap but sync options are limited. Say you want certain folders in your PC to be synced to cloud, Onedrive doesn't allow that. This is the only reason I don't pay for it, else I would have gladly purchased a O365 sub.

Google drive is better but expensive.

NAS - do your research. Many prefer it, has a high initial investment & need time to research & configure stuff but will meet your requirements (might not be as easy to use as Google drive). Do your research.

Even though I researched on NAS, I am new to it and I would like to know from someone with hands on experience.

Going through multiple websites, I found WD Mycloud lacks support, Synology have issues with sync when mobile is screen locked, 1Gb ethernet is not enough, QNAP have expansion capabilities, etc etc. I currently have a 200mbps internet connection.
