I have a SONY Vaio Laptop Model No: VGN-CR590. The laptop shuts down abruplty. The service center says the mother board is bad and needs to be replaced but they arent guranteeing tht changing it will fix the issue for sure. The laptop is a little 1year 2 months old.Heres what happens.

1.The laptop would boot to the Vista desktop and then shut down.
2. I have tried to format and install WinXP , it goes as far as the 1st reboot after loading the files and then shuts down.
3.I tried installing Ubuntu, it shuts down in the middle of installing the files.
4.I did manage to create/Format fresh partitions using FDISK.
5.I did manage to install Windows 2000 pro completely, even though it shut down twice during installation.Left the laptop up and running overnight after the install, it was still ON in the morning.
6.Have tested the memory with Memtest and Motherboard with PC Check , found no errors.
7.The lappy has 2 * 2 GB modules of ram.Tried to install OS (XP,Vista,Ubuntu) by using one module of ram at a time. Both times lappy shut down in middle of setup.
8.Cleaned the FAN even though it wasnt dirty.Still no luck.

Can anyone please help with this problem.Does the above symtoms sound like a Motherboard issue. I was under the impressiion that if MB is bad the system wont boot at all.Is there anyother diagnostic tools that i can use to test my hardware (RAM/MB)for errors by booting from CD.

The next step that i'm planning to try is

1.Try to install another OS Jolicloud.
2.Check with a friend for a compatible good known RAM and use it my lappy and then try to install the OS.

Thank You for reading and your suggestions in advance. Please help.
