Some websites are not loading, and some do [ISP - Jio Fiber]

Some of the sites (digit, quora...) are not loading and some (google, youtube, instagram...) are loading fine and good. I tried some troubleshooting like turn off/on the modem, windows trouble shooter, assigning google dns for both IPV4 and 6, flushing dns cache, winsock reset etc. But none fixed the issue.

This issue first started about two weeks ago, called ISP they scheduled a service visit later that evening, but after few hours modem rebooted on it's own and the issue resolved, so I cancelled the visit. Few days later again the same issue, but I waited this time knowing it resolved on it's own last time after few hours. As expected it resolved on it's own after few hours.

Again after few days, same issue and I waited for few hours but this time it didn't fix on it's own, so I called customer care. They assigned service visit later that afternoon but before they come the issue resolved on it's own. But I let the come and check the connection/modem. They don't have the clue, said it could be modem firmware acting up and reset the modem. Also said if the issue continues, they have to change to modem.

Again last weekend the issue popped up waited for few hours, not fixed. Called for service visit, they came and checked. He couldn't figure out the issue, called some people to troubleshoot and one thing they found was whatismyipaddress returned "IPV4 not detected" and his manager suggested to turn off the modem for an hour and try again. When I said the last guy suggested to change the modem if it continues, but since not sure where the issue is, he can't do it. And questioned what if the issue still continues even after changing the modem.

I was asked to try using mobile data, but coz of poor network I couldn't access anything using 2G data in my system. I guess they suspect something wrong with my PC. Before closing the call and leave he sent me a list of things I could try if that didn't fix but unfortunately because of the internet issue I couldn't get that list. I asked why close the call when the issue is not fixed, he said some random things and I don't see the pointing of keeping him and he doesn't have a clue so I let him close the call. I switched off and waited for an hour but the issue still continued. I tried to contact the service guy, but he didn't pick up the call.

Issue still continued but somehow I could able to access the list he sent. I tried one by one, things like tracert, ping, ipconfig etc. and sent him the snapshot. He called and said coz manager was in the meeting, he couldn't get him. He is the one could tell a solution to this issue and said he will call later.

Later that evening issue resolved on it's own. And haven't got any calls from them.

Issue happens only at the start of the day (I mean when I switch on the modem), not in the middle when all things are working fine and good.
Before the issue resolve on it's own, modem gets rebooted automatically. Except once all the other times I noticed this.

What I can or should do next time this happens? Any troubleshooting options you can suggest would be appreciated. How to know the root cause of this issue? I mean something wrong with modem or my PC. Checked using WiFi, can't access the same sites in mobile browser as well so at this point I am assuming it's the modem, not my system. It was confirmed by service guy as he couldn't get those sites to working in his mobile phone as well.

Change ISP to begin with, heard of many random issues & snooping on reddit.

Use google or cloudfare DNS, see if it resolves it.

Modem/router might be an issue but weird that some websites work, some don't. In my experience, WiFi randomly disconnects & sometimes no websites load when a router is close to dying. IF router is more than 4-5 years old, can change it.

I don't see Jio as a good company, my expectation was pretty low when I got the connection in 2021 after BSNL screwed up with DSL broadband. I needed it quick and Jio was the only one could do that right away, so went for it. There was never a significant down time in the last 3+yrs, and when register a complaint they were quick to address. More than I like to accept, the connection have been good so far.

Tried Google DNS, didn't workout.

They suspected something to do with "IPV4 not detected". Not sure what the fix is, will see what they gonna do next time.

This is the list I have compiled so far, will try these next time,
See if IPV4 address is detected in whatismyaddress.com
Unplug and replug all cables from/to modem
Power cycle modem
Run Windows troubleshooter
Uninstall and reinstall driver
Disable IPV6
Disable and re enable IPV4
Try Google DNS
Check if DHCP address shows other than 169.xxxxxxx, if not restart DNS client and DHCP client services
Try these in command line
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

Using some tool like ccleaner (be careful it may contain bloatware) or from within settings clear your browser cache/cookies/temp files and all such data.
Try multiple browsers one by one- Edge/Chrome/Firefox
Use PlanetVPN on Windows (as of now it has a free version with just 3 - 4 servers ) when the issue occurs, connect to VPN and recheck if those sites are now accessible? If so, the issue is at ISP level either CPE or any other equipment.
Open a ticket again. When the guy calls, ask him to come with his 4g or 5g mobile, create a hotspot and check again. (Assuming you are not getting any speed on your mobile data)
Before every tryout clear browser's cache and cookies etc
Try Chrome Incognito mode and check again
In WiFi or Networking setting temporarily disable IPv4 once and then IPv6 once and check how it works
Also if they close the ticket blindly, call them again and reopen the ticket
see if you can raise it with appellate authority *www.jio.com/help/contact-us?tab=call&appellate=true#/ (generally they are useless but you have done your part)

Insist for router change (you can tell them to bring one from their test setup and not necessarily a brand new one)
If your Desktop/Laptop supports CPU virtualization, create a Windows 10 VM using VMWare workstation (free) and test everything again from within it.

Check if Tata Play offers services in your area. Tata Play supports Bridge Mode as well as Static IP (for additional cost) and is overall good, just that they may be a bit more expensive.

Tried these few times in the last two weeks, didn't help fix the issue. :(

I will try these but keep it as last option. Feels like lot of work. :tired: :chinscratch:

Will do these next time.

No they don't have in my area. I didn't even know they exist until now.

PlanetVPN is just a windows app. *freevpnplanet.com/
All you need to do is install, run and select one of the free servers and connect. There's no much work there. You do not have to setup or configure anything. Once connected you virtually bypass your ISP. However it generally works on IPv4 so if that's affected it might not work. But if it works and thru VPN if sites are accessible, it indicates some issues at ISP level.

VM will require some learning curve though!

There's one more thing you can try, rather ideally ISP technician should try at your end, is to install WireShark *www.wireshark.org/ and capture packets when sites are accessed thru browsers and see where they are stuck.

Okay will do this.

I think I did something like this but in Jio Centrum, it's one of the things in the list he gave me. I just downloaded the file, since it was resolved and he didn't call back, I didn't bother with the file. And there was one last thing to check in that list which requires an app downloaded in mobile phone. It's called "netvelocity", I didn't try that at that time. Let's see what I can find in the file downloaded from Jio Centrum using this wireshark application.
