Should I replace laptop battery when I don't plan to use it remotely?

Currently the laptop is plugged in whenever I use it as the battery no longer holds charge & drains suddenly. Currently I don't use it outside my home. In this case is it necessary to replace the battery? Does it help to save electricity usage? Will keeping it plugged in during usage without replacing battery cause problems?

If you you can use your laptop like a desktop, then my suggestion is to use it by directly plugging power. Don't waste money on battery of a very old laptop.

The battery is having little bulge,. found when the laptop is opened to check for SSD upgrade. The service center person says it is better to replace the battery to prevent further bulge.
