Nvidia announced RTX for laptop & a closer look reveals Nvidia is trying to make profits from those without the full information (similar to Intel's i7 8550U strategy).
    rtx.JPG

The weak RTX 2080 MQ might end up being just 20% or so better than a RTX 2060 for $1000-1500 more. Nvidia is really getting greedy with the absence of competition in laptop segment.

In India, I don't expect to see a RTX 2060 laptop for under 1 lakh with laptops like Alienware m15 starting at $1549 with 2060 vs 1349 for 1060.

The successor to 1050Ti is rumored to be showcased in March/April.

Expected RTX 2080 MQ performance in BF V at 1080p ultra with RTX on: ~48 fps
Desktop RTX 2060 results in ~56 fps on same settings.

Why isn't amd pushing vega in laptops? I think I saw some high end laptops having vega.

Those Vega integrated GPUs like one in i7 8705G similar to GTX1050. But its an APU & isn't widespread for some reason.

There was an Asus laptop with Ryzen 7 1700 & RX580 but it was a 17.3" behemoth.

AMD desktop components have higher TDP than Intel & Nvidia, so AMD can't compete against them in laptops as components run very hot.

Hopefully next gen Radeon GPUs have laptop variants. The Ryzen 3xxxH laptop CPUs might be good for entry-level gaming laptops to compete against i5 8300H.

True. In desktop space, I would have personally preferred RX580 over GTX 1060 just because of cheap freesync monitors, provided prices are same like it once was. In laptops, Nvidia has a monopoly, so not a big issue for them, but lately many gaming laptops avoid it for battery life & reducing cost.

Is it so? What about people having older 10xx models? Can it be enabled by a driver update?

Yes, driver coming up in 15th jan, G(Free)Sync is already enabled on select monitors that Nvidia approved. For all other Freesync monitors, you can manually enable it in Nvidia Control Panel. Personally, tearing has never been an issue for me, I feel all this Freesync/gsync debate had blown way out of proportion. I highly doubt its gonna increase my experience anyhow.

That is great! Well, I don't have a FreeSync monitor yet but now I can think of upgrading my existing monitor as FreeSync ones are cheap. I also don't see much of tearing issues (Vsync fix it pretty well for me) but I do experience ghosting in CSGO and COD multiplayer.
Yes, its hyped a lot but still, helps in fast-paced competitive gaming.

G-sync seems to be more helpful under 60fps according to many users & some reviewers. For 120/144Hz, it doesn't matter, if your game is running near those fps numbers.

Looks like the new gen is much weaker than desktop counterparts. Last gen was about 10-20% inferior. Hopefully, it is just the case with RTX on, normal gaming performance might be closer to desktop ones.

Also, 2080MQ (lowest clocked one) might actually end up being very close to RTX 2060 laptop.

Also, I read somewhere that 2060 desktop card is going to cost somewhere around 350 USD, which would mean approx. 35-40k in India. This would also worsen laptops pricing in India since marketing plays a big role when it comes to chip "names". Looks like 2060 is not going to be a mid-size chip anymore :|

Offtopic but I tried free sync on my panel with Witcher 3 at 4k Ultra. It seems to work as expected.

Yeah, 2060 is more like new 1070. As I said earlier, don't expect 2060 laptops under 1 lakh.

Cheapest 2060 laptop in US is about $1400, new Dell G5. Considering its Dell, it should be priced 1.5 lakhs that too w/o taxes, maybe.

That price for GL63 isn't justified at all
Seriously why consider that when this Dell G5 is for $1549:
Dell G5 15 8th Gen Gaming Laptop for 4K Gaming | Dell United States
It is heavier than MSI, will most likely not have 3ms response rate display & might have lower color gamut coverage but traditionally Dell G series have far superior cooling solution & after sales. Also, it has Thunderbolt 3.

I was estimating the price increase for new RTX laptops by comparing similar models :)

If RTX 2060 performs similar to or better than GTX 1070 (not Max Q), then a $200-250 price rise is justified (Alienware charges $200 to change GPU from 1060 to 1070MQ). Any more is a tough sell. Since its new, the prices will be high, same was the case when 8th gen CPUs launched last year. Prices will normalize a bit by April then afterwards it will rise again due to 9th gen CPUs.
