Reliable phone <6k for mother.

1. Budget?
A. 6k

2. Display type and size?
A. Not sure since I only use a 3" smartphone myself. Small enough to be comfortable in small hands, big enough to not have problem reading, viewing pics etc. Display quality should be good. I personally don't like poor color,laggy,grainy displays though not sure about mom

3. Form Factor? bar, slider, flip?
A. Bar

4. Preferred choice of brand?
A. Reliability and after sales is important. High end features are not that important if the phone keeps getting issues. Though defects might be present in bigger company phones too and I don't know if they have improved quality of testing etc. or are only costlier due to management fees/parts/labour.

5. Preferred input method (QWERTY, touchscreen, numpad, touch-n-type).
A. Touch

6. What camera option you want? Please specify need for flash, autofocus, front facing camera.
A. Ok, usual camera. I don't know much about cameras. Flash only affects objects near the camera right?

7. Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A. Android. I'd preffer this as it has a better future.

8. Preferred connectivity options (3G, Wifi etc)Please specify clearly.
A. 3G/Wifi.

9. Preferred applications (Flash, Swype, GPS, etc)?
A. Good working GPS.

10. Primary use of handset (multimedia, camera, mails, internet, gaming etc)?
A. Phone and internet. My mother wants to do stock trading with this I'm not sure if a laptop would be better. She'd do the trading on the move mostly.

11. Any specific mobile phones in consideration?
A. Moto E, Android one phones(spice, micromax), redmi. I'd get 10% discount if I buy from SBI debit card.

12. Any other info that you want to share.
A. Good battery life to last from morning to night.

+1 to Xiaomi Redmi 1s. best VFM phone for 6k, great camera for the price.

V45 Update has solved ram management and heating issues.

redmi 1s lacks proper after sales and heating issues are still present according to my friend who is now trying cyanogenmod on his redmi(with no success),hes using his galaxy nexus again because of the issues

^umm yes it does,my friends phone shuts down after half an hour of minecraft due to overheating and is burning hot,even with the latest MIUI and he even tried CM still its pathetic
Moto E camera isnt that bad as people want it to sound,rather take the safe way and get Moto E instead

^I'm fine with the camera if it's better than Samsung Galaxy 5360 2mp camera.

Also how about the Android One phones?

Redmi 1s' hardware>>> Android One Phones hardware.

I had a Galaxy Y (GT S5360) too. Used it for taking photos of notes. Moto E's camera lacks auto focus hence I called the camera crap (can't take pics of notes).

Have you tried playing that game on Moto E? I doubt it will even be compatible let alone run well.
Though frankly IMO his mom would be fine with either MotoE/Redmi1S/AndroidOne/even Lumia530.

Personally I'm extremely happy with the Redmi1S. Maybe I got lucky? Heating is same as other phones I've tried in similar range (MotoG 1st Gen, S Duos, Xperia L) Camera quality is WAY better. I'm used to both Anroid & ios interface so no problem with MIUI, infact it looks quite pretty to me. Themes is a big plus. Build quality is great, rock solid. No lag or crashes since v41. Screen is awesome only a fingerprint magnet.

its time xiaomi and samsung phone owners in this thread accept obvious faults with their phones
every phone has faults , why deny stuff which is known
redmi 1s is overclocked by default which is why it overheats alot,much more than other phones
samsung phones have poor bezels which chip easily and come with bloat loaded touchwiz which lags etc
MIUI is nothing like ios,i can put a ferrari engine in a maruti 800 but that doesnt make it a ferrari
MIUI is also bloat loaded,thats one more reason my friend is using CM on his redmi
also why would op buy a phone with higher specs,his mom wont play dead trigger or something,rather get a wellbuilt device
@op stick to moto e,lumia 520,530 or worst case android one (only pro over moto e is the camera flash)

i hate samdung to the core :lol: i would never try to compare it with Moto unless i need to. (the s5360 on GB still working good for a 2.75 year old low end phone :bananana: and takes better pics than Moto E )

I personally prefer moto e. Have no idea about the ASS of xiaomi. Android one is good but the companies manufacturing them are not in case of ASS.

How's the battery life? Are you able to go through a full day easily or do you have to recharge in the afternooon?

Moto has good ASS? Since when? Also MMX has pretty solid ASS, but out of warranty (or from local resellers)

Motorola fixes Moto G glitch, offers refund & replacement through retail partner Flipkart - Economic Times
Moto has wayyy better after sales than micromax
micromax has poor quality products and even worse after sales
stick to Moto E or Asus Zenfone,they are reliable ,sturdy handsets

I talked about the Samsung to make it a point with which we can make a comparison.. I also had a spice phone with a 3mp camera at one point, forgot which model.

I don't know about Zenfone 4 since the processor is x86 and I'm not sure about ASUS.

And about redmi overheating, I don't think xiaomi themselves would overclock it. Though it might explain certain chips overheating.

I'm currently thinking between MMX and moto e. I'm not sure if moto would have 'international' type customer service or it would become local here. Amazon has some good deals right now too. Though I don't know if buying a non android one mmx phone would be good.
