Hi

1. I am setting up a wireless network in my house which has two floors. Would appreciate
a recommendation on a Router which will serve my purpose of connecting 2-3 laptops and a desktop.

2. Since my BSNL modem is next to the Desktop therefore it is directly connected to the modem thru Ethernet cable. I want to use the Laptop on the first floor. Now my question here is that will my desktop need a PCI card ?

Thanks & regards

Re: Wi Fi Router

I haven't paid much attention to your whole situation, but from what I can gather, you need a Linksys WAG200G router.

So, it will be Modem > Router and then to the rest of your devices. Your desktop can connect to it via the LAN card. Of course, get an 'n' based router if your notebooks are all n capable which will give you much more range than the g variants.

Also make a search on this forum, as it has been discussed many times.

Thanks friend... I had lost hope.

Perhaps I was'nt very clear in explaining my situation. I will try again.

1. My desktop is in one room where I want to place the router. So can I connect my desktop thru ethernet wire directly to the router or will it need a PCI card ? If you think I must also connect my desktop thru wifi then which card I need.

2. I was recommended by a dealer (a) Linksys WRT 54G (b) Netgear WGR 614 (c) Netgear WGT 624.. which do you think will be more suitable. Will read about the one suggested by you

Thanks

Re: Wi Fi Router

1. Yes u can connect the ethernet wire directly. U can use wg111v3 and use it everywhere else.

2. Linksys WRT 54G works well.
