i want to upgrade my processor from p4 ht 3.00 ghz.

my mobo is Intel Desktop Board D945GCNL.

which is the best processor it supports?

also is it better to upgrade current processor or upgrade to ddr3 config?

do not spend money on updating a discontinued config.better to spend more & get a current generation config.

actually this config is of my friend. at the moment he dont have sufficient budget to buy a decent ddr3 config, so was thinking if i can get him anything in 3-4k so that his current config can last till he raise funds for the future config. 3-4k wont matter much i guess. also i will search for second hand processor too.

PS: main point, its very very hard to convince his parents that their computer is outdated. they will ask "ye pc aisa kya nai kar sakta jo naya pc kar payega?"

in that case buy a cheap pentium dual core for ~3000.core2duo will cost more & even a Rs.3000 pentium dual core is much faster than P4.btw ask your friend to tell his parents that the computer is not HD capable(true to some extent)& now-a-days HD is everywhere(lcd tv,dth etc) & not having it is like a black&white tv in color tv age

i think it is E5700 which cost2cost shop in nehru place is selling for 2700.they only mentioned 3ghz dual core.
