I think you should get a AMD X2 or C2D......though I don't say that Athlon64s are not good.....

RAM requirement is more important that CPU.

A64 and Intel 3.0GHz will be decent.
Core 2 Duos should be great.
Quad core or Octa cores should give Vista a run for its money.

Well .. any 64 bit CPU should ... inc. Athlon64 2800+ .. but from my experience with Vista , for optimum performance , u should have a dual core ...

optimum will be quad or octa core, dual core is just for the time being.

however with single core CPUs, it will be ok.

Why when vista is concerned its always has to be Proci discusion...

There was a straight forward question asked..whether Vista supports AMD turion or Intel c2d ..and i guess he got his answers. Theres no need of exaggerating the topic.
Over here everyone will have their own answers and as such the greatest optimum processor for vista will keep on coming!!!

It wuld have been a different thing if the host has given a specific budget and had asked to select the right proci within this budget

dual core or quad core is not required for Vista, it's good, but not required, just like right now with Windows XP

The lowest computer on which i have run vista is a Pentium 4 2 GHz with geforce FX 5200 & 512 MB RAM, by ust incresing RAM to 1 GB performance incresed a lot, RAM matters in this case

right now, any pentium 4 machine out there over 2 GHz is good enough
