I have some doubts for upgrading my RAM from 4GB to 8GB.

1. How to check my current ram speed(Mhz)
2. Should I buy another 4GB or 8GB. Will it support a total of 12GB.
3. Which is the best brand now, Corsair, Transcend,...

Plz note I don't play games in laptop, main usage is as a developer machine.

Thanks in advance.

Install or Open CPU-Z and go to memory tab. Note the digits written before clocks and group them as x-x-x-x. (like 5-5-5-15)
Notice the dram frequency and multiply it with 2. This is the actual frequency of the ram.

When searching for the RAM, match those values you noted and buy whatever suits you.

Always follow this rule of the THumb when buying Laptop RAMS :--->
whatever may be the specs,but voltage is the most important criterion for mtching RAM modules,at least in case of laptops.

Hierachy for choosing RAM modules both for laptops and desktops :--->

type = type

Volt* = Volt*

frequency = frequency(least priority)

* Matching is a must for laptops,may not be too essential for desktops.
