Hi guys,

Need your help in buying a laptop. Its for my sister. She is a Civil Engineer and needs a thin compact laptop to always carry around. She has Extended displays set up in both her home and office, so smaller and thinner laptop is most preferrable.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
50 - 55k

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen - Preferably this one
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen - Suggestions welcome if it is a thin and light one in this category.

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?

MS Office, Auto Cad, Websurfing and seeing movies

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?

None. Just need a brand with good after sales service.

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like:
b. Dislike:

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) ) Min - 1080p preferred
  • Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) ) - Max possible
  • Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) ) - Online most preferrable

This is a good option:

Its 15.6" model likely has a TN panel vs IPS & lacks a backlit KB, so prefer 14" one.

Gaming laptops with GTX 1650 dGPU:

Highly recommended to get that with R5 4600H as i5 10300H or older Ryzen are weaker than R5 5500U. Gaming laptops are heavier & not as good battery life, esp on the Intel side.

R5 5500U's iGPU is fine for light CAD work. Unless you know that you will do some heavily graphically intensive tasks or play games, dGPU is generally not needed. Just add another 8GB RAM to the HP 14.
