Can you place a graphics card with PCI-express 2.0 on a PCI-express slot

Pcie gfx cards have single slot designes this means that it will accuire less space of the mobo where as Pcie2.0 has double slot design this means that they will accuire more space of the mobo.
And it also needs additional power cable.
