Right off the assembly line
Hi
I am new to this forum and I would like to request some help.
I have been using a pirated version of xp and wanted to migrate to an original version. However I have heard that the retail version of xp is discontinued and only OEM versions are available.
I was planning to buy an OEM version of windows xp pro off ebay for about Rs 2500 when my local computer shop told me he would provide me a non OEM version of Home for Rs 4250.
The version he later offered me says it is an OEM for system builders and he tried to convince me that that is the only one available nowadays.
I have some questions.
1. Are there retail packs still available in India for windows xp or should i have to go for an OEM
2. Are there different types of OEM eg for system builders etc. As I understood it all OEMs can be installed only on one machine. Are the OEMs for system builders any different.
3. People are offering genuine OEM versions on ebay. If they are genuine how do they all differ so widely in pricing? Is it safe to say that a cheap OEM will not be a genuine one?
Thanks
