Is 780ti worth the extra 12k over R9 290? I mean they perform close. At 1080p there is max 30 fps difference that too when 290 is giving 186 fps. It's not worth it IMO.

no problem in getting a beast if the budget allows :D

So we suggest to spend 12k more just for those extra few fps (30 fps was in the best case) which aren't noticeable anyway just because it can be afforded? I don't think so. R9 290 performs close and is 12k cheaper making it a much better choice over 780ti.

Do you see anything that justifies the extra 12k?

I am a nvidia fan and always took nvidia cards.

it is not always good.

i would say, with sufficient budget, yes. it is not because of the the fact that the performance difference is minimal, but op can afford the world's fastest single gpu and that costs ;). if we only think about the worthiness of different products for different categories, we will be severely limited to small number of products,be it a phone, camera,TV or anything.

i am noticing a strange behaviour from some FMs.

if an OP has a budget, its not that we need to go and hit that budget.. if you get a good config in a lower budget, then why??

and to top it off, server CPUs?? really? to make a "beast" just because he has the moolah. if we can help the OP save some of his budget, then OP will also feel great, anf the forum will also gain a good reputation.

dont take it otherwise guys, you are doing a great job. :)

^ +1 for save. 1080p and 780ti way too much. If OP is a nvidia fan let him be, get a GTX 770 for 1080p. My 2 cents

anirudhasarawgi any plans for multi monitor or 1440p

apologies if i was mistaken.

what is so wrong about it? it is better binned, operates at even lower voltages and hence lower temperature and is more stable and arguably a longer life than a desktop counter part.

780ti will face it with next gen at 1080p, its already stressed. The only reason we keep commenting on this being an overkill because we keep benchmarks at our table which are so last year, BF3? BF4?, Bio-shock Infinite? some Crysis 3 ...

not anymore, the only true next gen game tested recently over GPUs is watch_dogs, and please visit some sites to note, that a GTX 780ti only manages to keep avg frames of ~50 FPS ( a min of 17) at its home-ground 1440P hence it definitely needs a 780ti to play it at 60+ FPS in 1080p all maxed out. That day is not far when games like witcher3, farcry4 and some cry-engine games will come out and they will, and will require 780ti at 1080P.

At those who are saying a 290 is close performer to 780ti, its a lie, there are even 780s lurking which are sometimes faster or neck to neck with a 290X let alone a 290.

Internet is swarming with benchmarks where 780ti delivering 71 FPS at 1440P, ultra 2xMSAA, where a 290 delivers 56, these numbers dont come close, in no number system, if op has the bucks and the will to understand reasons why people buy 780ti, then buy it, otherwise dont buy it , but stay away from claiming it same as a lower performing card by some cherry picked graphs and charts.
