everytime i choose to run a windows tool from START --> RUN, i get an error. actually a console window opens up alongwith a error dialog box. this dialog's title says "16 bit MS DOS subsystem". the error text is "c:\windows\... (the path to the file i was tryin to run)" and "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction". then there are the usual 2 button for 'close' and 'ignore'.
this DOES NOT happen with all programs when i use 'RUN' from START menu. this just happens to some of windows own tools and utilities like regedit, cmd, etc.
the files themselves are not corrupt, cause they work absolutely ok if i click on them after locating them in explorer. but just that they refuse to start up using Start --> Run.
i have XP with SP2 and there are no trojans or viruses on my comp.
do i have to reinstall? cause that would be a pain !!! help.....
thanx guys
