Mi A2 is supposed to come with stock Android as UI. You can check the reviews on YouTube before deciding whether it's a good buy over RN5 Pro.

PS : Mi A2 already launched in China

The waiting game is something which will go on & on.

RN5 Pro is still a good choice even with the launch of Asus Zenphone Max Pro M1. If your friend likes stock android, get Asus M1, it is a good phone too. Mi A2 will be priced above these 2 phones, has a better SoC, better rear camera (better front compared to Asus), USB type C but has inferior battery capacity & lacks a 3.5mm jack.

I would say getting Asus/RN5 Pro isn't a bad choice as most people don't need that extra performance & their cameras are good enough. If the rear camera is the top priority, waiting for A2 might be a good option (but do remember its cons).

What about Moto X4? The brand is good, phone quality is premium (all glass), nice display (amoled full HD) and camera and there are multiple offers going on in amazon.
However, the screen size is smaller than your expectation, but still its worth a look.

Moto phones are not a good option anymore.
