After a long wait, Nokia has launched the Lumia 925 in India for Rs 33,499. Of course we had been expecting this for quite some time, and the phone had gone up for pre-order with online retailers. In addition to this, even the Lumia 625 has been launched in India for Rs 19,999. Even this smartphone went up for pre-order with e-retailers in the country. It goes without saying that the Lumia 925 has been the most awaited Windows Phone for Indian customers for sometime especially since its official global unveil in May. The Lumia 925 marks a departure from the polycarbonate industrial design language that has become a signature trait of Nokia’s Windows Phone portfolio. Instead, for the first time the company has used an aluminium chassis in conjunction with a polycarbonate cap for the back. This has resulted in the thinnest Lumia smartphone which measures 8.5mm and is starkly lighter than the Lumia 920 at 139 grams.
Internal specs wise, the Lumia 925 is not too dissimilar to its heftier sibling – the Lumia 920. It’s powered by the same dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM and has 16GB of internal storage without microSD card slot support. Nokia has shifted to an AMOLED display on the Lumia 925, from the LCD on the Lumia 920, though the size and pixel density remains the same at 4.5-inches with a resolution of 1280×768 pixels. The AMOLED display helps special Nokia features like GLANCE that is part of the Windows Phone Amber update, as Nokia can control individual pixels on the AMOLED screen for the GLANCE clock. This feature is not enabled in the Lumia 920 which has an IPS display even after receiving the Amber update.
As a part of the Amber update, Nokia has added a settings menu to calibrate the display, so people who don’t like the saturated colors of an AMOLED display can revert to a more natural color palette. This is similar to the tool that Samsung provides on the Galaxy S4.
The camera is a big part of Nokia’s differentiation. While the Lumia 925 retains the same 8.7-megapixel PureView camera from the Lumia 920, it now has a 6-element lens assembly with the sixth element being made up glass. This ensures more sharpness. Additionally, like the Lumia 920 optical image stabilization is also prevalent in the smartphone. As a part of the Amber update users will also get access to the Nokia Pro Camera app that was first shown off at the Nokia Lumia 1020 launch. The app allows for a lot of manual control something which was not possible before with the stock Windows Phone camera app. It also has a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera and a 2,000-mAh battery.
