Square Enix announced at Gamescom today that Nier: Automata would make its way to Steam in addition to PS4. Nier creator Yoko Taro revealed the news in a humorous video, where he said he wishes he could be in Germany, though he'd probably "pig out" on beer and sausages.
"I will stay here and work hard on making Nier: Automata instead then," Taro said. "Well, to be honest, I'm not working all that hard really. You can look forward to it if you want, but I wouldn't expect all that much if I were you. Oh yeah, apparently there will also be a Steam version, too.
"VALVE!" Taro cried, holding an actual valve up to his eye as if it was a spyglass. We're not sure why he did this, but we're sure glad that he did. Also, it's cool that Automata is coming to PC. You can watch the video, courtesy of YouTube user MiiSeeks, above.
Nier: Automata releases on PS4 and PC in 2017.
Nier: Automata was announced at E3 2015. The original game was developed by Cavia, while Platinum Games is on board to develop the sequel. We found out last year that Automata will continue the series' weirdness, while adopting Platinum's well-known style of combat. We got the opportunity to check the upcoming game out at this year's E3, where GameSpot's Alexa Ray Corriea was impressed by the action.
"I was immediately reminded of the aforementioned Bayonetta," she said of Nier: Automata. "Combat is fluid, and switching between attacks and weapons is smooth. Playing as the android warrior 2B, I flipped and flitted around my enemies, whipped my sword out mid-air to smack them away before following up with a ranged attack. Everything moved quickly, a dance between enemies, 2B and her AI companion 9S."
