hi friends

i am going to buy a new pc (assembled one) price is 35+-5 k intended use of the system is multimedia and medium gaming
please suggest me the configuration for that one

does the processor with HT technology gives any significant change in performance? which would be better AMD or INTEL?

regarding the mobo i want the one having AGP slot so that i can purchase a graphics card later. does intel original mobos have AGP slot?

ram would be 512MB or 1 GB

please suggest a graphics card also with in price range of 5 to 6 k

prompt replies expected

 forget about intel.just go for AMD it rocks.

Here goes the config:-

1-AMD64 3000+ (939).

2-Asus A8N-E mobo.

3-512 DDR 400MHz RAM-Kingston,Transcend.

4-Gainward/XFX 6200/6600 non gt GPU.

5-Hitachi sata2 80/160GB HDD.

6-Samsung 17'' 798MB Monitor.

7-Numeric 600VA UPS.

8-Altec lansing/Creative 2.1 speakers.

9-Logitech MM KB and optical mouse.

10-Powersafe 400W SMPS.

11-Sony DVD-RW.or Sony DVD-ROM,Sony CD-RW.

All this will come around 40K.

 AGP days r now gone u'll get PCIE now.u need to buy a card the time u get the mobo as this board dont have onboard grapix.

 Yea HT does make a lot of diff but still AMD is betta then that of Intel proc with HT.

Everything's fine with what anirudh said but just get atleast a Gb of ram, and dont get a single 1Gb stick, Instead get 2x512Mb, better performance because of dual channel.

thanks for yr suggestion Anirudh
i have a few querries

1 the mobo u suggested has PCI xpress slot and the cards u suggested are PCI xpress cards?

2 what is the clock speed of AMD 3000 and AMD 3200? and FSB of these processors?

3 does the mobo supports DDR II ?

4 what is the meaning of 400 in DDR 400 ?

your suggestions will help me to get a value to price system

presently only intel supporting mobos only support ddr 2 ...no drastic changes with ddr or ddr 2 now.....

ddr 400...means your ram will run at 200mhz speed.......ddr333 means running at 166mhz........

 A8N-E is the best PCI-express non-SLI mobo for AMD socket 939. 8) Period.

 Clock speed of AMD socket 939 3000+ Venice core (get venice core, low power consumption) is 1.8GHz. The speed of the HT bus (FSB speed) is 1000Mhz duplex, i.e. effective 2000MHz, compared to a mere 800MHz of P4 LGA 775 (775 pin). Others correct me if I am wrong. But this processor can be overclocked quite a bit with the above mentioned motherboard but I would not suggest it here in this thread. No idea about the speed of 3200+.

 6200 is available in both PCI-express and AGP versions and both 128MB and 256MB although the PCI-express version shares some memory with the computer main memory, a technology Nvidia calls as Turbocache, while a similar technology is available with ATI X300, known as hypermemory.

plese tell me what is the meaning of non gt in Gainward/XFX 6200/ 6600 non gt GPU

 and is Gainward and XFX name of company ?
 who is the manufacturer of the main chip of the card like nvidia ATI
 Does Asus A8N-E not having basic onboard graphics?

 is hitachi a better option than seagate?
 does asus mobo support SATA2?
 what is the meaning of non SLI inthe reply of Digitized?

 Please see this page for AMD model number comparisons. The clock speed of 3200+ is 2Ghz.

 XFX and Gainward are respected names who make graphic cards.

 Asus A8N-E does not support DDR2 memory, it is based on Nvidia nforce4 ultra chipset and it does not have integrated graphics but a separate PCI-express slot for a PCI-express graphics card. Only boards based on Intel chipsets (from 925 chipset onwards) support DDR2. But for us mainstream users, 512MB of DDR 400Mhz memory is sufficient.

:) I hope this answers all of your queries.

Oops, I forgot one of the questions.

SLI (Scalable Link Interface) is a new technology developed by Nvidia where two similar Nvidia PCI-express graphics cards can be used in tandem to boost graphics performance. There are separate motherboards available in the market for SLI and non-SLI systems. SLI requires two PCI-express slots. So the boards are designed differently. Non-SLI boards have only one slot.

Here is the link to know more about the Asus board:

And the link to know about SLI:

Hope this helps...

thanks for your informative reply but still i am confused over the choice of processor

what i earlier learnt is performance of a system depends on processor speed, physical memory, cahce memory and hard disk access time if we fix the physical memory and hard disk then both the things are in favour of intel
intel processor PIV 3 GHz LGA775 socket is having clock speed of 3GHz and L2 cache memory of 2 MB only FSB is 800 MHz Cost 8500Rs

whereas
AMD Athlon socket 939 3200+ is having clock speed of 2 GHz and L2 cache of 512 MB here FSB is higher 2000 MHz effectively as told in the forum cost 9650Rs
so how AMD is better than intel
