My friend wants to buy a new laptop

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
INR 35k

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) Which country will you buying this notebook? Also state that if Amazon.com or Newgg.com ships to your country (Only if you know this info).

HP preferred

5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
General purpose laptop. No high-end gaming

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

light games,dedicated graphics wud be nice but not a compulsion

8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
decent enough

10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

So basically no special requirements. Just a general purpose laptop. Pls tell me the best model in this range

Asus K53SJ for 36K only.
Here are the complete specs:

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 520M with 512MB/1GB DDR3 VRAM
Intel® Core™ i5-2410M dual-core processor
Speed : 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
Cache : 3 MB L3

and regarding the battery life, it has good battery life of about 4 hours which is good for a 6-cell battery.

can u please post a link for a good review on the laptop. The ones I found have a i3 processor :(
Also the price is 36k? thts really awesome for a 2nd gen i5 with dedicated graphics!!!

and yes the price is indeed 36k. Rs 35,500 is the MRP which i bought this one. You may not be able to get this laptop anywhere online. But you can get at any of the asus stores. Follow the below link and call the store in your city and ask them about this laptop.
