I need to get my friend best laptop around 50k (but with little comprom11111ise, so can extend a bit), so that he can then sell me his laptop 2nd hand to me.

1) What is your budget?
(INR or USD)
Rs 50k was initial (but looks like it will be compromise). So extended till 65k.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
Programming like, Visual Studio, Eclipse, Android development etc

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
Best processor, SSD, can compromise on GPU if that makes huge difference in price

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: None
b. Dislike: None

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution: 1080p (Full HD)
  • Battery back up): Shouldn't be a concern
  • Purchase place: Online, offline wherever can get best deal, India of course if offline

So far I have shortlisted following few models (they are 1050 based, and a bit on higher side):
ASUS/ FX504GD-E4363TD
HP Pavilion Notebook 15-bc406TX 2018
Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-51

Also one important question:
My friend doesn't game much, but is gaming GPU important for future proofing? Or can we save some money by opting to compromise on GPU?

Delete hp if you want peace of mind after sales service. Look for the dell one's in that range.
In that budget don't expect a good gpu.
Where's your Excel?

My excel contained those 3 laptops only.
What about my other questions? Do I really need a GPU though? His requirement is not gaming. But we only want a GPU if it helps futureproofing. Else even 1050 is overkill.

I would say forget about the gpu and focus on things like ssd, ram, processor etc. in that budget. Gpu alone won't help in futureproofing.

Dropping GPU, and limiting budget I have found this good Lenovo ideapad laptop. Although it also don't have SSD, but it looks promising at under Rs 50k.

Lenovo ideapad 330E 15.6-inch Laptop
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5 - 8250U Processor (1.6 GHz base frequency, up to 3.4 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)
  • 8 GB DDR4 RAM
  • 2TB 5400 rpm Hard drive
  • 15.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) with 180⁰ hinge
  • 2GB Graphics (AMD Radeon 530 GDDR5)
  • Free Windows 10 Home Operating System
  • Weighs only 2.2 Kg with Dolby Audio Speaker
Edit: Nevermind, it doesn't have fHD screen. That's bad.

Another option:
Lenovo Ideapad 530S-14IKB 81EU007VIN

  • Intel I5-8250U 8th Gen processor
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 512 GB SSD hard drive
  • 14-inch Full HD screen, IPS Antiglare display
  • Windows 10 Home High End IN App AFO operating system
  • NVidia GeForce MX150 (2G GDDR5) Graphics
  • Preinstalled Office Home & Student 2016
Nothing better than ASUS/ FX504GD-E4363TD comes to mind.

Damn, Indian laptop market is always miserable to look at. And I will also suggest you to stay away from MSI, they might give decent config but the laptop won't survive after 1 yr. Have heard this from close friends.

Ok. No reply yet on the actual laptop chosen. I guess I have selected a good laptop, that of ASUS.

Don't go for ULV ones. If he can import, he can easily get a Dell G series or Asus FX series laptop with i7 8750H, 16GB ram, 256-512 GB ssd + 1tb hdd and 1050/ti for around 900$. IIRC they both have international warranty.

No we can't import. We are already stretching our budget with the model we selected.

If it is not possible to get some friend from USA to bring laptop then that asus one looks good but do check it in an asus exclusive showroom first. You may even get some extended warranty offer which is a must have when buying such expensive laptops(aim for at least 1+1 years warranty with ADP as bonus if possible).

Good GPU isn't required for futureproofing if you don't game. It would be a good cost-cutting method but sadly GTX 1050 & MX150 powered laptops cost almost similar to 1050Ti ones during a sale, so not a huge saving.

This is the one I'm talking about:
Asus TUF Core i5 8th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/128 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) FX504GE-E4366T Gaming Laptop Rs.69990 Price in India - Buy Asus TUF Core i5 8th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/128 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home/4 GB Graphics) FX504GE-E4366T Gaming Laptop Black Metal Online - Asus : Flipkart.com

Acc. to flipkart, the i5 + 1050 model has a 120Hz panel, that's why its priced similar to 1050Ti model which has 60Hz display.

I would suggest
Acer Nitro 5 Core i5 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/Windows 10 Home/2 GB Graphics) AN515-51 Gaming Laptop (15.6 inch, Black, 2.7 kg)
Acer Nitro 5 Core i5 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/Windows 10 Home/2 GB Graphics) AN515-51 Gaming Laptop Rs.58990 Price in India - Buy Acer Nitro 5 Core i5 7th Gen - (8 GB/1 TB HDD/Windows 10 Home/2 GB Graphics) AN515-51 Gaming Laptop Black Online - Acer : Flipkart.com

Yes, importing by any means is not possible.

As for warranty, yes, ASUS is providing 2 years additional warranty (total of 3 years) from it's website (asuspromo.in) as a promotion (valid till Sep end) if we pay Rs 1499.

And yes, the laptop is 60 or 120 Hz display depending on model.
