1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
1 lakh or 1500 USD

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16"

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
Design Softwares, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. And Gaming (AAA Titles, at High/Ultra)

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
i7 6700HQ/7700HQ
GTX 1060 at least or 1070 if possible
8-16 GB RAM
1TB HDD, SSD is optional

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution -1080p (Full HD)
  • Battery back up -normal (3-4hrs)
  • Purchase place - Online in India
  • I don't mind the weight, but lighter is better. But not for a premium.

I wanted to buy it in India itself, but the costs are exorbitant.
I have a relative who's currently in USA, so I can get it through her.
Edit: The USA relative cannot bring it, so I'll just look at Indian options.

What would you recommend?

How are laptops from Gigabyte?

I had liked the MSI one, but MSI doesn't offer warranty in India..

Also, for warranty purposes, will Sager laptops have to be shipped back to their reseller in the US?

Okay so update:
I do have another relative through whom I could get the laptop.
I researched my options, and I realized I don't have a lot.
In fact I might not have any options; all laptops that I had considered have some or the other problems.
My considered laptops were-
1. Asus GL502VM: I realized that the VM model only has a GTX 1060, so I decided to consider the GL502VS. That is generally a good model, but I'm not fond of the aesthetics and it tends to run loud.
2. Acer Predator 15 G9-593: It has exactly all the things I require, with the exception of a good colour gamut and sRGB, but the weight is huge at 3.7kg, and the battery is not accessible. Furthermore the battery runtime is low and it takes a long time to charge. And the GPU might throttle. And the sound isn't great.
3. Alienware 15 R3- Again the usual- Runs loud, Thermal management isn't good, and is very heavy.

I really cannot find a good laptop as of now, with the Asus seeming the best of the bunch.
If any laptops can be recommended, do let me know.

@sidster well, I am not much into laptops, but looking at your case I would like to recommend to check out Dave Lee D 2D channel on youtube:
Dave Lee

I have followed him, this guy has reviewed almost every current gaming laptop (mid level to extreme level) available in the market (including Gigabyte, Acer etc.). His videos are professional and informative, you should be able to get very good idea about what to purchase by his videos.

Thanks a lot dude. I've seen his videos before, but I'll take a closer look at them.

I think I'm finally going for the Alienware 15 r3. I might have to undervolt and repaste, but I'd have to do it with the Asus too.
Between the two, even though the Alienware is heavier, it has significantly better battery life.

Contact azom, get a quote and then decide since you can't import from USA.

Azom is quoting 1,45,000 for the 1070
The Alienware is going to cost 1,10,000.
And the relative will get it, so I need not import

Great then.
AW13 has better screen than AW15
Also, check with gigabyte and asus India if they support laptops with international warranty. You might end up getting a better config. (@abcxyz bought a gigabyte laptop IIRC)

I was considering the aw13 but I need a larger screen for designing, and a gtx 1070 is nice.
Asus has the GL502VS but I dismissed that
And I was considering that laptop, the one that @abcxyz bought, but I remember reading the reviews and finding something wrong.
Fingers crossed that the Alienware turns up okay
