^dont get that i3!!
get athlon II x4 640 in place of that. much more futureproof.

and ok dont spend on a good psu. later you will feel the loss ;-)

Again, I love to trouble you guys :)

Why: The i3 2100 is a SandyBridge. If an i5 Sandy is okay, then why not a i3 sandy?

Performance wise :
Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

i3 2100 is Sandy:
The Sandy Bridge Review: Intel Core i7-2600K, i5-2500K and Core i3-2100 Tested - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

Also, the i3 2100 has AES instruction ;)
With the Indian govt. getting too intrusive into our online business, one day I might decide to use Truecrypt to Encrypt the entire HDD, then this will save my day :C_evil:

^^just because i3 SB has 2 cores where as AMD 635/640/645 have 4 cores and add future proof factor to your system

What if each of the i3 cores is capable of doing more 'Work' than AMD's cores?

I just remembered the AMD advertisements and PR campaign in early 2000 decade, when they were saying how Gigahertz should not matter [Intel had higher Ghz but less performance].
Now the tables have turned :) turn for Intel to say cores do not matter!

that was 11 years ago man........
well your requirement includes virtual machine
thats why a quad core is recommended
if your requirement would have been restricted to basic task, i would have encouraged you to go for new i3 SB processors
but virtual machine is benefited from multi core processors and enough RAM in the pocket

For your point:
Server Processors: Why More Cores Matter
But that is for server machines, the processor has multiple channels to access memory.

Against your point:
CPU Cores: The more the better? - Super User

Grrr. I just hate choices. :-(

well, I've seen this practice of "cramping" things in a particular budget. Honestly avoid that.

A good processor like Core i5-2500 should be used with a good H67 motherboard (~6k)

Intel DH61WW is an entry-level motherboard more suitable for Core i3-2100 imho.

I had said DH67BL (not the DH61WW) :)

With the i3 2100 not i5 (i5 is clearly OUT of budget)

Purchase got delayed due to
a) cloudy skies on Thursday/Fri.
b) Mahavir Jayanti on Sat/Sun. The Gigabyte main distributor on SP Road was closed, so shops were not able to offer me the Gigabyte board.

Choice I was given instead of Gigabyte:
Asus : M4A88TM USB3 5.6K
Although it uses the older 710SB looked decent 9Warning is Micro-ATX).
But an Asus at 5.6 K with USB3 looked tempting.

MAIN Problem: I was not able to find the FSP SAGA PSU. The shops did not know the brand.
When I asked for medium quality PSU they said Zebronics 1.2K 450 W PSU is there, [Medium Quality]. Above that they only knew Corsair (too expensive for me).

Any Suggestions on PSU 350W/450W? In Bangalore. < 2K(appx)

Also, how is service of Gigabyte in Bangalore. The shop keeper told me nowadays, shops do not accept warranty replacements. Buyers have to go to Company Service Directly. Is it true?

One more thing:
I have an OLD APC UPS for PC: Back-UPS AVR Pro (I think it was 500VA or something).
I am sure it uses approximated Sine Wave. On the net I heard that, this can damage modern PSU's. Is it true?
