My thoughts on the questionnaire format of this Sub Forum

Status
Not open for further replies.
The questionnaire format was created so that the Thread creator can give all the required information for receiving a comprehensive advice.
However, i feel one does not need to mention the questions in his post. It makes his post difficult to read. its a small gripe, nothing biggie, can be totally ignored but it has been grinding my gears since last year...

For eg
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

Ans: Gaming and browsing - Witcher3, Battlefield 4, Need for Speed, Cod - series for next 3 years hopefully

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 80000 may be another 5k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Window 8

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:Yes, a 24" 1080p monitor with good panel and no ghosting.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: None

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: In 2 months

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: No. An assembler most likely.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Hyderabad.Yes only local dealers since i need an assembler also.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: The PC should be relevant for 2 years at the least and no problems

I have already decide on these components
gpu- R9 270X SAPPHIRE VAPOR 16.5k
Psu sea sonic sii 520w psu
Monitor mostly LG 24MP55 15k
So I need advice for casing, processor and mobo
Any advice on these components will be welcome.

Both offers similar information , but the second example is more easy to read and pleasing to the eye and keeps the thread concise, compact and prevents unnecessary scrolling, specially for mobile users

you just removed the questions and just used the answers. the questionnaire was meant to make everything clear and fast. people don't mention anything unless and until asked. so most OPs without the questionnaire post like this-

need extreme gaming PC to run all new games at ultra in Rs 80000.

so it's complete chaos for the people suggesting the rig. filling the questionnaire takes 5 mins and saves us from the chaos and the hassle of asking everything and saves OP from buying a bad PC.

It takes 1 minute for you to include the complete questionnaire along with questions and more than an hour for all other members to acquire necessary details. And what's the sense in including answers but not question? You just have to copy paste it. trust me, it saves a lot of time for members who answer the questions.

Now OP here is not suggesting the abandonment of questionnaire altogether but only suggesting that the posters post only answers.

You are totally right. It really is not easy to pickup the answers at the end of questions. Answers only format mostly makes for better reading.
But the last method posting everything in a sentence takes away the point by point nature and is less suitable here.

I would be happy to go with the second format provided the full questionnaire is available at the top of each thread for reference.

what's wrong in mentioning the questions anyway?

nobody remembers the question sequence order.

even the guy who is filling up the questionnaire will have to Copy+Paste the questionnaire and then fill in between, cuz he won't be able to do otherwise as even he won't remember the questions.

even with full questions+answers thingy, most people misses important and not so important matters here and there. i wonder it will be a pain to the people who suggest rigs to figure out all the required matter. if people have the patience to write answers only, then he can include the questions also. it is just copy pasting!

Lol i thought everyone in this forum had a problem understanding my English, at least you got it right lol.

If people can copy paste the questions, and write their answers, i think they can spend 10 seconds more to remove the questions.

answers alone on mobile phone may look even wierd!

makes answers bold. it will solve the 'trivial issue'.

The cause of this thread is a lack of contrast between question and answer as highlighted by the examples below.

We should think up a scheme that makes it easy even for a novice to post a thread with proper formatting. How about this scheme for the questionnaire?

SAMPLE QUESTIONNAIRE

--------------------
Instructions : Please copy and paste the following questionnaire completely into your post and enter your answers at the Ans: prompt.

1. What is the purpose of computer?
Ans:

2. What is your overall budget?
Ans:

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:

4. Which operating system are you planning to use?

I will post this and try this out. Let us see if this works out.

SAMPLE QUESTIONNAIRE

--------------------
Instructions : Please Reply With Quote the following questionnaire completely and enter your answers at the Ans: prompt.

Q 1. What is the purpose of computer?
Ans: Home computer.

Q 2. What is your overall budget?
Ans: 20,000 INR.

Q 3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No.

Q 4. Which operating system are you planning to use?
Ans: PCLinuxOS 2014.07 64 bit.

OK. So that works :) Although I would have been happy to have the questions in regular and answers in bold fonts :(

Now who will go and bell the cat? I mean who will edit all the questionnaires? :-D

the current questionnaire is perfect except for "Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be
done by an assembler ?". but this doesn't even matter.

No problem. As it was brought up and I too had a similar irritation I just scratched it ;)

there's no reason for this thread to continue. mods should close this thread.

Please.

It may be a minority opinion but at least 2 people think the formatting of questionnaire could be improved. I have put an option. As far as I know the thread is still on topic. Nothing inflammatory has yet been posted. A polite request with a viable option has been suggested.
What is the hurry in closing it?

Bolding and all is the poster's responsibility.

If I'll type [ B ] text [ /B ] without the spaces, it will get parsed as bold. And when somebody copies it, it will be only the text, without the Bold BB Code. So, there's no way you can circumvent it and make it all beautiful to satisfy everybody's fetish. ;)

Much ado about nothing really.

Yep. That is what I found out after my first attempt.
However this is rectified by the Reply With Quote option.

If ever I get enough knowledge to actually make up a questionnaire I might try this out. Until then all this was an exercise in frustration ;)

and when you give the "Reply With Quote" option, people post replies in that Questionnaire thread itself. That's why that thread is locked.
