I installed windows Vista BETA2 build 5231 on my P4 3 GHz HT 64 bit and ASUS P5GL MX with 512 MB DDR 400 mhz RAM :D

It took only 35 minutes for complete install and is running very smoothly!

And YES! they hv completely removed the sidebar from this edition...

I want to share something, I found Interesting in VISTA and also some problems which I faced and their solutions:

1.) Whenever I open My Computer in VISTA, it first checks the Floppy drive then displays the contents of My computer! It was very irritating and took a few seconds for it. I got the solution while enabling / disabling some options in Tools -> Folder Options. The solution I found for this problem was "Always use icons instead of Thumbnails" checkbox was unchecked. I simply checked it and VOILLA no more floppy drive seek :D

2.) One Interesting thing I found was a new option "Use checkbox to select the items". If we enable this option in Tools -> Folder Options, then a little checkbox is appeared at top left corner of each item, if we select the item or move cursor on the item. Its a gr8 option and we don't need pressing <CTRL> key ne more.

3.) The Power settings r also changed and not very user friendly. I didnt found option for disabling HIBERNATE. I searched on net and found the solution as following:

Open command prompt and give following command:

Code:
powercfg -h off

hay vishal thnx for sharing that.... :d :d

here... me still fighting with the bcdedit.exe.... i dont like that default vista boot menu... therefore i felt that i need to edit it...

now USER Name is an administrator of the computer (in vista) but still when ever i try to play with bcdedit.exe from the User Name account, i get access dinied.... check this guide out regarding bcdedit.exe

also another thing... one of my frnd took my DVD to install the OS in his system... he did... but as he didnt had the right product key, so he was unable to activate it... so after 11 days he thought of removing it... here we found another surprise... we were unable to format the drive in which the vista was install... as the drive in NTFS so keep 98 out of question... we tried to format it at the time of installing the windows XP 64 bit.... it faild & reported that either drive in read only or is damage... same with windows XP 32 but & server 2003 r2 then we tried to do it from command promt of windows recovary consol (winXP x64, x86 & server 2k3) here it sayd access denied... we tried to do it from booting in the windows XP 32bit (as he had a dual boot)... in the Disk managment we saw the format option of right click menu over the drive in grayed out... lol... not a single option to format the partition... drive wthout the vista DVD....

Yeah! I tried bcdedit.exe

But all was in vain! I think it doesnt work properly in Build 5231...

neway! I hv uninstalled VISTA and installed FC3 on that space

PS: If Partition magic also doesnt work, then try to use ne Linux distro installation CD and delete that partition while creating Linux partitions during Setup
