If you are building HTPC then do't go for E6600 and P5B. Go for AMD proc+Mobo
They are cheap and best for this purpose and spend the money saved on good speaker system and a sound card. Do't go for 7.1 speaker system as a 5.1 system will be suffient.
My choice for 5.1 speakers is Logitech X-530 (around 6000/-) or Z-5300(around 10000/-).
And for sound card go for Creative X-Fi xtreme music ( may be around 8000/-) otherwise onboard card is good.

Wise Old Owl
Proccy : AMD Athlon64 X2 5200+
M/B : Asus M2N-E
RAM : 2*1 GB Kingston DDR2-677 Mhz
Gfx : XFX 8600GT 256 MB
Cabby : Zebronics Peace
SMPS : PowerSafe 500W
HDD : Seagate 2*160GB (SATA 2) in RAID 0
Disply : Samsung 19" WS 940BW
DVDRW : Liteon 20x
AUDIO : Creative Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 4
K/B + Mouse : Any wireless combo

Well , for a HTPC , the Audigy 4 is good enough comparing the price .. almost 3k's less ... Audigy 2 ZS is even slightly cheaper ..

Also , a wireless combo is a must for any HTPC ..

The reason i recommended an AMD pc , coz for an HTPC u'd definitely wanna focus slightly more on power consumption , and a cooler PC ..

am2 x2 vs c2d

1. gaming depends better on gpu
2. hd movies better on hardware decode acc. by gpu
3.music better on add on sound card & speaker set

yup , i would have gone for AMD if it was a pure HTPC , but since its also a gaming rig ,went for a faster C2D config. Also the price diff is only for m/b .
proccy almost cost the same after price cuts by intel.

will go for a Audigy 2 ZS later
and waitin for an affordable DX10 card ..with lots of DDR3 memory :)

@deathvirus_me
i see u have a similar config, how hot or cool :) is your rig ?
