Multiplayer Games... HELP! ME

Hi

I have connected my Desktop(custom build) and Laptop(TOSHIBA) thru a Crossover Cable. I am able to share the drives and can transfer files to and fro from the two boxes....

What I am unable to do is that I cant play multiplayer games. I installed road rash on both the machines and was unable to see the host computer on the available servers window..

do i need a hub or a switch to play multiplayer games...

please help

First & foremost since you have a network up & running,which operating systems you got there running on both the pc's?
which protocol/s has been used for setting up your lan?TCP/IP?
I'm not quite so sure about this but the game you want to setup on your lan may require the IPX protocol installed.Some games dont work quite well with TCP/IP installed.
Give us a few more details will ya?
