Beware of the innocent
I need some help. My mtnl triband 256 unlimited is a bit troublesome today.
I am not able to open gmail, yahoo and many othersites. Digit opens fine and google does too.
but when i try to open gmail, yahoo and most other sites, all it get is "connecting to <website>" in the status bar and after 3 minutes or so, I get a problem loading page - connection has time out error.

Could someone help me on what to do? I don't think the techsupport will be able to help me on this. Any settings to be done on the router?

Pinging the addresses also doesn't work though the dns seems to work since i get the ip addresses during the ping.

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeba Singh Emmanuel>ping www.google.com

thinkdigit opens fine and that is what i am using to post this. So it is a pretty silly error.

What do I do? Please help. My bitcomet works fine.

And a_tif, this is happening a lot over here. Like, once every week or twice sometimes. Techsupport is unable to rectify. Anyone else using mtnl triband in Delhi? In Hauz Khas?

here is the DNS I have stored for future reference
try them all one by one, some will work

MTNL Broadband DNS
Given by Techsupport
59.179.243.70
203.94.243.70
Other DNSs
203.94.227.70
In Modem
59.176.31.254

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention, it is working now. But this error happens repeatedly and I am always worried now.

K I am using MTNL in Sadiq Nagar (Close the Hauz Khas), there are two kind of problems I see:

1.) Only some websites work like Google, Thinkdigit etc
Reason : Only one DNS Server available and this one can only resolve these few web sites

c:\Ashish>ping 59.179.243.70

Pinging 59.179.243.70 with 32 bytes of data:

2.) Virtual Circuit shows connected but no internet ...
Reason : Obvious none of the DNS Servers are available

it occured to twice over the last 2 months . try using proxy servers like gpass1.com and try using this dns server.
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
..changing dns server solved mmy problem but 2 weeks back , none of the sites opened and after 2 hours , everything was back . it has occured like that only once..

ps , tell the customer care abt this.. they had solved my issue(after 5 days) when the problem occured for the first time.

^^^ Hey Sagargv I can ping those 2 IP addresses but using them for DNS doesn't help ...

I already called in Customer Care yesterday and they were not aware of such issue, they made me change some settings on the modem to no use. Nyways they've registered a complaint and assured me someone will be coming to my place to fix their DNS servers ..... Real Geeks Man ....

i also came across this type of problem... sometime though i dont get reply by ping, i can surf net.... but i think it is b/s of server instrument.... i came across this type of problem first time and in rainy season.... i contact my isp... and they said that due to rainy season, by moisture server did not work for some time and after sometime it automatically restart and works.... but for getting reply by ping, server takes some time to be in appropriate condition..... b/s at 11 pm , my isp did not work and at 5 am, it works well... though there are no technical persons on site.....many times...
make me correct if i m wrong.....;)

mtnl's infrastructure sucks. They probably do not have qualified people on site.
It really isn't difficult to ensure that proper failback systems are implemented, is it? And server going down due to moisture? :-O OH MY GOD. In this age, we need to worry amount humidity and moisture? Can't they put the blasted server in a regulated environment?
@sagargv, thanks for the dns addresses. I have noted it down. My internet started working yesterday again. So I am keeping my fingers crossed for the next time.
And Ashish Sharma, thanks for the tips. BTW do you know Zion Computers in Sadiq Nagar? (Just wondering)

^^^ yeah the servers do come to life @ times but they tend to prefer sleeping for the past few days ...

Servers going down by moisture in rainy season .... where have they kept them on the roof top ... well atleast get them some rain coats then ...

@ ilugd : I m based in B'lore for the past 2 yrs now .. in delhi on vacations ... no haven't seen the shop guess it should be in the Sawan Nagar market is it ?
