I have a Samsung wheel mouse,PS2,which I have been using for the last 2 years w.out any problems.Since yesterday the mouse has stopped responding;although the screen has the pointer cusror displayed, the mouse simply doesn't work.
I have tried 1).relpacing with a separate mouse, 2).cleaning of the inner wheels of the mouse, 3).rebooting with/without mouse attached.
Nothing has worked.I am also not so good at working with the keyboard alone.Can somebody please solve the problem,& if yes, please with keyboard shortcuts.

Till the mouse works, here's a temporary solution.

Go to Control Panel > Accessibility Options. Enable "Mouse Keys". You will be able to control the pointer with arrow keys.

If no mouse is working, then the port (PS/2 or USB) seems to be the problem. Try the mouse on some other machine. If it works, you are sure its the port.

If its a PS/2 mouse, try to get a new USB mouse or a PS/2 to USB convertor. I am using the convertor in my laptop which doesn't have a PS/2 port.

But can't the port be fixed? U mean to say that if I purchase a new PS2 mouse it will have the same problem bcus of the port? What about the option of an optical wireless mouse? How much can it cost?

Also what is the cost of this PS2 to usb convertor? What to exactly ask the vemdor regarding this convertor?

I really don't know the repairing cost, but a convertor is a cheaper option. If the machine (MoBo) is under warranty, go for a repair. Otherwise IMO, its not worth it.

Wireless mouse also will have a base which needs to be connected somewhere in the machine (USB). So why not just get a convertor and get going? Wireles mice are far more expensive then convertors!

But first find out whether the problem is the mouse or the port! Or is it both?? If its port, get a convertor. Its the cheapest and fastest solution. It won't cost more than Rs. 100/-

hey man if ur PS/2 port is damadged no need to repair ur MOBO
just buy a PS/2 to USB converter (will cost u around Rs. 50/-)
& connect ur mouse to USB Port

@tuxfan is absolutely correct
