Hello,

Recently I upgraded my computer from Windows ME to Windows XP_SP2 and after
that I have to keep my computer off/not powered whenever I try to connect
my external modem .

If by chance I plug in the modem while the computer is live/ON it hangs my
computer .

When I say that I connect my modem to the computer I mean that I provide
power to the modem

Also if I get a call when the modem is connected to the computer it again
hangs my computer.

The irony of the situation is that I do not face this problem with any
other device.

I never used to face this problem with Windows 98 or with Windows ME.

My computer (assembled) was purchased in May 2000 and it is a pentium III
having an Intel 810 chipset motherboard & 128 MB RAM. I don't think any
further details should be required. If however anymore are required feel
free to post and I shall give them.

Please help me as to what I should do and what seems the problem.

Thanks.

Please do help me :D

Get the latest XP-compliant drivers from your modem manufacturer's website. If your drivers aren't fully compliant, (even drivers for Windows 2000 work most of the time) then you will face such problems when the OS tries to initialize the modem.
