Looking for a 32 bit processor laptop

There is an interesting question I would like to ask to all of you if you would indulge me. What happens if you want to play like your owned really old games (1998-2004)that were made for the Windows 98, ME or even XP? Newer 64 bit processors with Win 7 64 bit may hiccup (and often do) while trying to load these games. Compatibility mode often does not work out. So I essentially want a laptop which has a 32 bit processor and has speed upto or around 2.5 Ghz. RAM upto 4 GB RAM and if possible a dedicated Graphics card (like an Nvidia GTS 500 series or AMD Radeon). Processor can be either Intel or AMD.

1) What is your budget? (INR )- Rs.40-55k

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
a. Netbook; 10” screen or less- NO
b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen-NO
c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen-YES if screen size available in 14"
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen-YES
e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen-NO

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
- Can be any brand

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
-Office/Light Gaming

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
-14"-15" (Matte if possible)

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)

Basically I don't want my old games (1998-2004)rendered useless on a 64 bit processor based computer, hence the requirement of something 32 bit. I've been searching around and have not found a suitable match for my requirement. Any help at all is appreciated. Things like extra usb ports, bluetooth, card reader, optical drive are not essential in this request.

Thanks!

I've 64bit laptop with 64bit windows and old games run completely lag free, no hiccups. Those old games are backward compatible to new machines. May be the PC where you faced hiccups having some windows error.

Thats true.

So I suggest you to get a 64bit laptop and opt for a original windows :)

I recommend you to get the dell Inspiron 14R or 15R with new 3rd gen processors.

There is nothing like that.

AMD invented amd64/x86_64 to avoid that. Native backward compatibility with 32-bit/x86. And every Intel processor since Core 2 Duo is an amd64 processor.

You don't get "32-bit"/x86 processors any more. Every processor in the consumer market is an amd64 processor with backward compatibility with x86.

You can install x86 OS if you wish. It will run x86/32-bit apps fine, will not address more than 3 GB RAM and won't run 64-bit apps. You install an amd64 OS on it, it will run x86/32-bit apps, will address more than 3 GB RAM and will also run 64-bit apps.

AMD hasn't created a "32-bit" processor since 2003. Intel hasn't created since 2005.
Wikipedia said:
x86-64 is an extension of the x86 instruction set. It supports vastly larger virtual and physical address spaces than are possible on x86, thereby allowing programmers to conveniently work with much larger data sets. x86-64 also provides 64-bit general purpose registers and numerous other enhancements. The original specification was created by AMD, and has been implemented by AMD, Intel, VIA, and others. It is fully backwards compatible with Intel x86 16-bit and 32-bit code. Because the full x86 16-bit and 32-bit instruction sets remains implemented in hardware without any intervening emulation, existing x86 executables run with no compatibility or performance penalties, although existing applications that are recoded to take advantage of new features of the processor design may see performance increases.

Compatibility mode often does not work out.

If you've got issues with _really_ old software/games, use Windows 7 32-bit instead of 64-bit.

Or run a Windows XP Virtual Machine.

That clears things up a bit. Thanks for replying everyone!!
