2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?

  • Mainstream; 14" - 16" screen

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
Office [ Lots of files in Hard disk, connectivity, fast response, video conference broadcasting, continuous operation ]

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
i5, SSD (500GB or 1TB), 4-8GB RAM, 2GB Graphics

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

b. Dislike:

6) Anything else you would like to say?

A laptop with docking station compatibility (Looking for 1 LAN port, USB port - minimum 2, HDMI out ) (not essential but in wishlist : audio in/out, power connectivity , eSATA or Hard disk connectivity if possible)

  • Screen resolution ( HD is enough ),(bright-screen for indoor-sunlit use would be an added benefit)
  • Battery back up ( normal 3-4hrs )
  • Purchase place ( Online / Local )

A good docking station costs a lot, like $100+ in US. Moreover, laptop needs a Thunderbolt 3 port to use such a docking station. Your budget is too low for either. So get a USB hub, which has some USB ports & maybe an ethernet port as well.

For a laptop, get any Ryzen 5 3500U laptop with SSD & 8GB RAM. Something like this:
Robot Check

Look out for Lenovo S145, HP models & Asus vivobook models with similar specs. The integrated GPU of R5 3500U is as good as Nvidia MX230, so good enough for very light gaming. CPU performance of R5 3500U is similar to i5 8xxx/10xxxU CPUs, but it's have much inferior iGPU.

Isn't Vega 8 more comparable to MX130, as per this link Vega 8 with Ryzen 4xxx processor is similar to MX230 as per ranking hierarchy but then I am not a gamer so not sure how much real world difference does this make.

Yes, Vega 8 is closer to MX130. But the difference between it, MX130 & 230 are not very huge, but that is the order, Vega 8 < MX130 < MX230. Vega 8's perform will depend on RAM, so upcoming Ryzen 4000 APUs with higher freq RAM might end up performing bit better than MX230 with dual-channel RAM.
