1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
INR 60k...could go upto 65k if better options are available.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
14" +

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
anything except Asus.

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Light gaming, web/desktop/graphics application development, need to run web server 24*7, couple of VMs, will connect external monitors

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
no preference but would be better if it supports full HD.

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)
need backlit keyboard, also non-sticky touchpad like older IBM thinkpads. also want to be future proof for at least 2-3 years.

I'll suggest you Lenovo Ideapad Y500, priced at 64.5k @ flipkart, it has full HD display, great GPU & backlit keyboard too. Moreover Flipkart is giving 2yrs warranty + accidental damage protection.

Note: I've given order for it from Flipkart after researching for weeks.

For lesser price you can consider Dell Inspiron 15R Turbo with FHD display or Samsung NP550P5C S03IN. Samsung one doesn't have backlit keyboard but has better GPU than Dell.

Thanks for reply...Lenovo Ideapad Y500 sounds good... i have heard though that its touchpad has got problems...can someone using this laptop verify this...also any idea about how much it would cost at nehru place?

What about after sales service of Lenovo? Actually i travel a lot...and would carry this for longer duration with me...is their service reliable yet in India?

An Indian buyer of Y500 posted that there is no touch pad issues. Moreover Lenovo has changed the touch pad of Y500 manufactured after November, i.e from December. So there shouldn't be any issues now.
I'm a college student, my place has an authorised service centre, so no problem for me. Lenovo is a big brand in laptops(better than ASUS, Toshiba n Samsung) so it's service should be good.
