Screen resolution ( doesn't matter) )
Battery back up ( extended (5-7hrs) )
Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local )

I haven't shortlisted on any model as of now.
Although I thinking of extended my budget for this particular model by Apple -

Which languages, IDEs or tools would you be using for programming?

c, c++, java predominantly. Eclipse, netbeans, Visual Studio among IDEs. I may use it for android development in future.

I don't think Visual Studio is available for Mac OS. Also, it would be better if the laptop has minimum of 8 GB ram at its disposal. Eclipse is a ram hog.

Better to go with Windows based laptops with atleast a hyperthreaded (if dual core) i5 and 2 ram slots.

its ram can be swapped for a bigger one upto 16 GB.
