Either he is being tortured or kept in detention. He cannot be killed, his company has a huge role in what china has become today, killing him makes no sense.

I feel this some foul play for getting attention.

That's likely as well, since the CCP is known to make problematic people disappear, so I am not surprised. They could probably replace him with someone they control.
